The Farmers Market Returns with a Blossoming Beginning

The Beginning Blossoms Market already is up and running but the Oak Forest Farmers Market, coming back for its second year, will soon be upon us.

The is returning for its second year and, already, there is a new treat blossoming.

The Park District opened up the Beginning Blossoms Market earlier this month as a kick-start to the full Farmer's Market. This mini-market features vendors supplying flowers, plants and other goods to help gardeners in an early planting season. It runs through May 22.

"We have a couple of nurseries, there's a farm (and) ... a couple of people who do yard art," said Kirstin Bardusk, recreation supervisor with the Oak Forest Park District.

The Blossoms market runs 3 to 7 p.m., except today, May 15, when it runs from noon to 4 p.m.

This year, fans of the can enjoy one that will last the entire growing season, from May 29 to Oct 2. Operating hours are 3-7 p.m. every Tuesday in the South Parking Lot of the .

Patrons can expect around 30 vendors selling fresh grown food and hand-crafted items each week.

In its inaugural season last year, the market started late, in August, and only lasted 10 weeks, Bardusk said.

Also new to this year, the Park District is looking to do a couple of special events tied in with the market—possibly live music or events for the children, Bardusk said.
