About Janet

I have been an Oak Forest resident since 1999 but was raised in a land not-so-far-away called "Midlothian".  I am a full-time mother of 6 children, (some not so little) and 'on the side' I moonlight as a full-time employee at Northern Trust as an IT Projects Consultant.  (Wait, that's two full time. Nevermind).

My passion is writing though and if you would so indulge me, follow one or both of my blogs:

www.ForJuliana.org documents the recovery of my oldest child, Juliana Ramos, who suffered a traumatic brain injury from a car accident in October of 2009.  In June of this year I published my book of blogs from the first year of Juliana's recovery called 'For Juliana: Almost to the Almost, One Penny at a Time' which can be found on Amazon.com.

www.JanetSpencerBarnes.com is my opportunity as a writer to indulge my passion and write as if no one is reading.  I hope to entertain and enlighten you but I will let you be the judge of that.  Feel free to share your thoughts with me on that!

READ:  Where it For Juliana began, in For Juliana: Almost to the Almost, One Penny at a Time, by Janet Spencer Barnes.

The particular blog is a little bit about the rest of my family and sometimes just about life, mostly Juliana's life, including her incredibly wonderful fiance, Chris Medina.  Oh, you have heard of him?

When i heard about your Story I was heart broken. I know the same pain. I lost someone from head injury. It is hard. I hope Juliana is getting better. When I seen how heartbroken Chris was on the TV I felt that pain. I am so glad that your family got all that donation money. I wish you all the best.

Hi Juliana and her beautiful family. I became aware of Juliana's injury when hearing Chris share his story on American Idol. I was frozen still when he spoke and said "A.B.I." This abbreviatioin you don't hear of quite often, nor to people know what it means when explaining it to them. I, however, know very well.

I am 5 years post A.B.I. I suffered a depressed skull fracture as well on my frontal temporal lobe of my brain. I am too, fighting and living everyday with an acquired brain injury.

In following Juliana's recovery, I see the support and love you constantly give and share with her... with each other. I am trying my best to use my words in expressing how your support has touched my heart. I have learned to walk and talk all over again.... day by day, step by step.... please understand, without my families support, I would not be here progressing as I did.. as I am.. if it were not for my family. Janet, My mother Paula was my breath, when I could not breathe alone.

Juliana, I am so impressed with your recovery.. it is a lot of work.. especially the first 2 years. I know we don't know each other, but I do know we are both fighters for life.. and living with ABI. I believe in you. It is only up from here.

Send you and your family a big hug and support.
(p.s. i hope this made sense, it took me 2 hrs to write, (I am still working in my word finding) just tried to let my heart to the writing.)
xoxo love,

To Juliana and her family: I have only recently been made aware of the tragedy your family has suffered- ironically enough, whilst I have been in hospital suffering from my own neurological problems. A woman I made friends with would play the beautiful song 'only words' about 3 times a day and we would sit there and cry together and gain inspiration. The only solution is to keep going with this endurance test. I have lived most of 2011 in hospital, and I know what it's like to totally live for your family and dear friends because you are so unfunctional that you are totally dependent on others to save your life. I am a 31 year old woman who was also struck down in her prime with absolutely no warning. I wish your family such love and support and encouragement always. God bless you.
