Woman Bitten Twice by Daughter's Pit Bulls: Midlothian Police Blotter

A Midlothian woman watching her daughter's two pit bulls was bitten on the hand and the back of her leg on Saturday, March 2. The woman underwent surgery on her hand on March 4 at an area hospital. At least one of the dogs was euthanized.

A Midlothian woman is recovering at an area hospital following surgery, after she suffered two dog bites while watching her daughter's pit bulls March 2.  The dogs were locked in separate areas of the house by the time officers arrived at the home in the 14500 block of Tripp Avenue.  Police found the woman on the kitchen floor, with her right hand wrapped in a blood-soaked kitchen towel, according to the report. Officers helped the victim to her feet, noting the back of her left leg, near her knee, was also soaked through with blood. The woman was watching the two dogs for her daughter, Lauren A. Janssen, and they were playing together when one of the dogs' paws became stuck in the others' choker collar. The victim said she tried to free …

i'm so sick of hearing about Pitbulls in the news. I have a Shepherd and Pit Bull (both can be very dangerous dogs). It's about the owner NOT the dog! Why was a choker collar on in the first place...especially if the dog is without a leash, the collar isn't doing a darn thing! Ugh this just frustrates me that Pits are always picked on and its not always the dog...BLAME THE OWNER!!!!   more ›

Loose Dog Bites Woman

A woman who attempted to corral a boy's loose dog was bitten on the wrist. The wound required stitches and the woman filed a police report. The dog and its owner are unknown.

A woman attempting to help a boy control his loose dog was bitten in the act Jan. 17, according to police reports.  The woman was on her way to pick up her children from school, when she saw a young boy with a dog in a headlock near James and Edward drives. The dog broke loose from the boy's grip and darted away on Edward Drive. The woman told officers she stopped to help the boy catch the dog. She approached with a box of dog treats and coaxed the dog close enough to give it a treat. As the victim tried to grab the dog by the collar, the dog bit her on the right wrist. The bite went through her coat, breaking the skin on her wrist. The boy then reportedly said into his cell phone, 'Great, he just bit somebody.' The boy then caught his dog…

Pit Bull Bites, Scratches Child: How Does OFPD Handle It?

After two separate incidents involving pit bulls in Oak Forest this month, Patch asked the Oak Forest Police Department to shed some light on their animal procedures.

For the second time this month, there was a pit bull incident in Oak Forest, this time involving on a loose dog that bit or scratched a small child. Following a dog-on-dog attack earlier this month—that left one dog dead—the second incident casts a harsher light on the breed in Oak Forest—although Oak Forest Police were wary to compare the two incidents. “You're talking apples and oranges,” said Oak Forest Police Lt. John Koschnitzky. “When you get a dog that mauls another dog, that then has to be put down due to injuries versus a domestic pet putting its mouth around your kid's arm and leaves a red mark. That's apples and oranges.” On Sept. 12, police responded to an animal call in the 15000 block of Long Avenue. At the scene, officers …
