Oak Forest 34K Votes Out of 1st Place in Dog Park Contest
Promoters in Oak Forest continue to rally voters for the Bark for your Park contest for $100,000.
Update Oak Forest is less than 35,000 votes out of first place, according to contest figures. In addition to the usual voting methods, those who answer a particular question correctly can get an extra seven votes on Friday. Oak Forest Cruises Within 4,000 Votes of 2nd Place in Dog Park Contest
The Bark for your Park contest to win $100,000 continues until Aug. 1. The last week of voting will "go dark."
Just nine days ago, Oak Forest trailed by 15,000 votes behind second place Lynchburg, VA. Both cities are among the 15 finalists for the Bark for your Park contest, the winner of which receives $100,000 for a dog park. Now, with several weeks of voting left, Oak Forest has pulled to within 4,000 votes and has largely left behind south suburban neighbor Orland Park, who sits in fourth place. A second-place finish for Oak Forest would bring a $25,000 prize and reward the enormous effort community members have put forth in recent weeks. Community Video Asks Where Can a Dog Go to Relax & Play?
Oak Forest's video for the Bark for your Park finals is posted on the PetSafe Facebook page and on YouTube. Viewing the video can help get extra votes in the $100,000 contest.

OF Pulls Ahead of Orland Park in PetSafe Dog Park Contest
Laura Clemons says she was contacted by an Orland Park trustee who reportedly wrote the contest organizers with concerns about the neighboring communities competing.
Oak Forest has topped neighbor Orland Park to take the third place spot in a national dog park competition where the winner gets $100,000. As of 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oak Forest is about 300 votes up on Orland and more than 15,000 votes behind the second place community, Lynchburg, VA. Competition in the south suburbs for the Nos. 3 and 4 spots appears to be heating up. Ald. Laura Clemons of Oak Forest's 1st Ward said she was called this week by Orland Trustee Patricia Gira, Sun-Times Media reports. Gira reportedly wrote the company behind the "Bark for your Park" contest, PetSafe, with concerns that a close competition between neighbors might hurt voting. Voting continues through July 31.
