Oak Forest Man Pleads Not Guilty to Strangling Wife, Setting House Ablaze

Martin Rodriguez, the Oak Forest man police say strangled his wife, slashed his own throat and lit their house afire was arraigned Feb. 14, and pleaded not guilty.

An Oak Forest man accused of strangling his wife and setting her body and their home on fire pleaded not guilty Feb. 14.  Martin Rodriguez, 48, allegedly waited until their three children were at school before strangling his wife Erica, slitting his own throat and setting their home on fire Dec. 18. Rodriguez was treated for burns and a cut to his throat.  Rodriguez appeared before Judge Colleen Hyland.  Rodriguez was preliminarily charged with first-degree murder and aggravated arson. He was also charged with residential arson and concealing a homicidal death.  His next scheduled court appearance is March 19.  What to Read Next:

Arraignment Set for Man Charged With Strangling Wife, Setting House Ablaze

Martin Rodriguez, the Oak Forest man police say strangled his wife, slashed his own throat and lit their house afire is scheduled to be arraigned on Feb. 14.

An Oak Forest man accused of strangling his wife and setting her body and their home on fire is scheduled to be arraigned next month, officials said during a brief hearing Monday, Jan. 28. Martin Rodriguez, 48, has been formally charged in connection to the incident, where prosecutors say on the morning of Dec. 18, he waited until their three children were at school before strangling his wife Erica, slitting his own throat and setting the fire. Rodriguez was treated for burns and a cut to his throat.  The case will be assigned to a trial court judge in Bridgeview and Rodriguez will enter a plea on Feb. 14. Oak Forest and surrounding towns are rallying around the children of slain Oak Forest woman Erica Rodriguez. Faith United Methodist Church in Orland Park will host a pancake breakfast Jan. 26, in support of Rodriguez's three children.  Erica Rodriguez, 40, was found strangled inside her family's Oak Forest home Dec. 18, after firefighters extinguished a blaze. Her husband Martin Rodriguez, 48, faces charges of first-degree murder and aggravated arson. Rodriguez was found outside the family's home with his throat slit.  The couple was married for 17 years, with children 17-year-old Sylvia, 15-year-old Andrew and 6-year-old Gloria. I certainly hope you follow through with what you wrote, although every scam artist for a benefit I've seen has said pretty much the same thing . It just seems a bit unusual the way its being handled from a legal standpoint. If there's no Trust, is the money part of your daughter's estate? Martin Rodriguez, 48, of Oak Forest appeared in court Tuesday, Jan. 22, the first time since his release from the hospital and his arrest for allegedly strangling his wife and setting her body afire in December.

A preliminary hearing for an Oak Forest man accused of strangling his wife and setting her body and their home on fire unexpectedly became a three-hour affair of stops and starts as opposing counsel wrangled over DNA evidence Tuesday, Jan. 22. The case against Martin Rodriguez, 48, is still in bond court, as prosecutors are still within a 30-day window to issue formal charges.
