This Week's Pets: PAWS' Unofficial Mascot and 2 BFFs

Misha is best known as the dog that hangs out behind the PAWS Animal Shelter counter. Jay Jay and Charlee have been together for 4 years.

Misha has stayed with PAWS Animal Shelter in Tinley Park for more than a year. She's a lovable boxer who usually can be found hanging out with the people who run the shelter's front counter. Some remodeling work at the animal shelter has put her back in the kennels with the rest of the dogs. But that change of pace hasn't ruined this delightful animal's demeanor. Misha is eight years old, quiet and obedient. She's also adorable, in this editor's humble opinion. Doesn't that sound like a great combination? If your home has room for a couple new additions, you might want to take a look at best friends Jay Jay and Charlee. Charlee is a gorgeous, 4-year-old West Highland White Terrier who can do some tricks. His pal is Jay Jay, a Chihuahua mix…

Misha is one of the most loving dogs here at PAWS. Why would you want a puppy when you could adopt a dog who is house trained, obedient, quiet, low maintenance, and content to just "hang out" with a family who loves her? We love that Misha is our mascot at the shelter, but this girl deserves better. Please come visit her at PAWS and see for yourself what a sweetheart she is.   more ›

This Week's Pet: A Black Cat That Might be Lucky

Meet Herman, a calm and affectionate cat up for adoption at PAWS Animal Shelter in Tinley Park. He'd be a warm addition to the home.

Herman is a 2-year-old Domestic Shorthair cat in need of a home.  Don't be fooled by the black fur. This guy is gentle and appreciates being petted. He was found as a stray in Tinley Park and has been living at PAWS Animal Shelter since Dec. 13. He has been neutered and still has his claws. Staff at PAWS describe him as a sweet boy. Looking for more adoptable pets? Pets with new homes Felix, a tabby that was featured Dec. 4, was recently adopted. Other success stories include Millie, a lovable pointer mix, and Patches the cat. This Week's Pet: A Playful, Obedient Lab Boxer Mix

Meet Scarlett, an adorable mix of great breeds who likes to play fetch.

Scarlett is a two-and-half year old Boxer Lab mix, with reddish brown fur, and a lot of love to give. She's been with PAWS Animal Shelter in Tinley Park since November when she was found as a stray. Scarlett is playful, will sit on command and enjoys a good game of fetch. Scarlett weighs about 65 pounds, so she's better off around families with older children.  Please give her a great home. Looking for more adoptable pets? Pets with new homes Felix, a tabby that was featured Dec. 4, was recently adopted. Other success stories include Millie, a lovable pointer mix, and Patches the cat. This Week's Pets: Two Friendly Cats

Tom is a recent spunky addition to Tinley Park PAWS, and Snuggle has been a guest for a while now. Give one of these friendly cats a home.

Tom is a 1-year-old male Domestic Shorthair Cat in need of a home. He weighs a trim 9 pounds 3 ounces and has lots of energy. He's friendly and gets along with people. Tom first joined PAWS Animal Shelter in Tinley Park on Dec. 30 when he transferred from a different shelter. Snuggle has been featured before, and she's still in need of a home. She is a 7-year-old Domestic Shorthair Cat, weighing in at 11 pounds. She is friendly with people though gets a little competitive with other pets. She has been with PAWS since her owner moved in September and couldn't bring her along. Looking for more adoptable pets? Pets with new homes Felix, a tabby that was featured Dec. 4, was recently adopted. Other success stories include Millie, a lovable …

This Week's Pet: Can PAWS Give You the Sweetest Taboo?

That's the name of this 9-year-old domestic long hair cat, but there's nothing forbidden about her.

Taboo, unfortunately, has become a familiar cat around the PAWS Animal Shelter. This 9-year-old domestic long hair cat was adopted earlier in the year, but she was returned in October when things didn't work out between her and her owner. But that doesn't mean she wouldn't make a nice addition to someone else's home. Taboo might be an older feline, but she has a lot of energy and loves to play (just check out the video in the media gallery). She's a litter box-trained cat who is spayed and up to date on her shots. And even though she's playful, Taboo isn't overly aggressive or a biter. Looking for more adoptable pets? Pets with new homes Felix, a tabby that was featured Dec. 4, was recently adopted. Other success stories include Millie, a …

This Week's Pet: New Dog on the Block Needs a New Home

Damon is a tiny guy with a big, friendly heart. Would he fit in at your home? Watch his video and decide.

Damon, a 1-year-old Manchester terrier, is a newcomer to PAWS Animal Shelter, arriving there Nov. 23 from Chicago Animal Control and Care. But that doesn't make him a shy guy. In fact, Damon is a playful dog, more curious than anything else. He's a small dog, weighing a little more than 9 pounds, and he doesn't have any issues or special needs. Watch the video in the media gallery to see how friendly Damon can be. Looking for more adoptable pets? Squirt is Agent Double-Oh Cute and has a license to steal your heart. Snuggles lives up to her name, and she's the latest cat to be featured. Baby, a playful orange, white and black striped cat, and Angel, a German Shepherd mix, still need a homes. This Week's Pets: 2 Cats Joined by a Common Diet

Felix and JD require the same special food. But that doesn't mean they aren't fun-loving cats. Watch the video and see for yourself.

Felix, a black-and-white domestic short hair, and JD, gray tabby, didn't know each other before meeting at PAWS Animal Shelter in Tinley Park, but they have a lot in common. Both were abandoned by their owners within days on another (Felix came to the shelter Oct. 28; JD on Oct. 30). Both are easygoing and playful. And both require a special diet. It's because of that diet that the shelter hopes to adopt them together (although it's not required). That diet also makes it difficult for them to live with other cats who don't eat the same specialized food. Watch the video and see if Felix and JD are the cats for you. Looking for more adoptable pets? Squirt is Agent Double-Oh Cute and has a license to steal your heart. Snuggles lives up to her…

This Week's Pets: These Cocker Spaniels Could Star in Their Own Buddy Movie

Casey and Max are a canine odd couple in real life. But the oddest thing about them is why no one has snatched them up yet.

Felix and Oscar. Bill and Ted. Riggs and Murtagh. Casey and Max? OK, these two cocker spaniels haven't entered the pantheon of onscreen buddies, but that's because they don't have a good agent. Spend a few minutes with them, though, and you'll see they have a special chemistry that comes from living together. Unfortunately, their owner had to give them up when he lost his house, and they have been at PAWS Animal Shelter in Tinley Park since Sept. 25. Max, 8, is the friendly, fun-loving type. When he arrived at PAWS, he had a benign growth on his neck that was drained and removed and hasn't caused him any additional problems. Casey, 9, isn't as outgoing, but that doesn't mean he doesn't like being around people. He also has the lighter coat…

This Week's Pet: Meet Squirt, Agent Double-Oh-Cute

This 1-year-old domestic short hair is looking for a safe house to come in out of the cold. Find out how you can adopt her.

Squirt is a 1-year-old domestic short hair with a stealthy, curious side to her. Maybe that's why we're going with the James Bond theme for this installment (well, that, and we really want to see Skyfall). This inside cat has been at PAWS Animal Shelter in Tinley Park since March 15. She was found as a stray, so the shelter isn't sure how she is with kids and other animals. Squirt does have all her shots and is litter trained. But she will definitely need a scratching post. There is no information on whether Squirt has a license to kill (vermin, that is); it's classified. But we're absolutely positive that she hates martinis, shaken, stirred or otherwise. Looking for more adoptable pets? Snuggles lives up to her name, and she's the latest …
