City Council Shines Light on Resident's Volunteerism

Oak Forest mayor and council members honor Janet LaVelle for her contributions to Veterans Home and local charities.

Two weeks after her surprise award from the Oak Forest City Council, Janet LaVelle turned the tables on the aldermen. She stepped up to the microphone at the Nov. 23 city council meeting, playfully stating that few people can pull one over on her. But the council did just that at its Nov. 9 meeting. Rising to speak before the council, she literally shined the spotlight on Oak Forest Mayor Hank Kuspa. LaVelle, 73, known for her practical jokes, donned a pair of glasses that looked like spotlights for the meeting. Kuspa, however, got the last laugh. He shined the spotlight right back on LaVelle. The Oak Forest City Council honored LaVelle with a proclamation recognizing her for her volunteer work. The proclamation cited her as someone who "…
