Representatives from the Mainstreet Organization of Realtors say affordable prices and low interest rates have created a "perfect storm" of buyer-friendly conditions.
Single-family home sales in the Chicago suburbs grew 41 percent in February 2013, compared to the same month in 2012, according to data provided by the Mainstreet Organization of Realtors (MORe). In the south suburbs, sales in the majority of Patch communities aligned with this trend, with 10 out of 14 towns experiencing an increase in sales, three towns experiencing a sales decrease and one town remaining the same year-over-year. Thirteen homes were sold in Oak Forest in February 2013—compared to just 5 in February 2012. The median price dropped 14 percent, from $153,000 to $131,000. Although overall home sales increased in January, the median price of homes in Oak Forest dropped by 14 percent, according to the Mainstreet Organization of Realtors.
The 18 detached, single-family homes sold in Oak Forest during January represented a 12.5 percent increase over January 2012, when 16 homes were sold, according to the Mainstreet Organization of Realtors (MORe). There were 18 homes sold in Oak Forest during December 2012, compared to 15 sold in December 2011. The median price dropped in January, coming in at $135,000—a 14.3 percent decrease over the same month in 2012. The market for detached, single-family homes in suburbs throughout the Southland saw growth in January, MORe reported. MORe gets its statistics from Midwest Real Estate Data. December saw an increase in the number of homes sold in Oak Forest, along with a jump in the median price of homes sold in December 2011.

In November, 26 homes were sold in Oak Forest, compared to 23 sold in November 2011. However, the median price of homes sold in December ($147,500) was 1.6 percent lower than the median price of homes sold in December 2011 ($149,900).
