Oak Forest Home Sales More than Double from a Year Ago

Representatives from the Mainstreet Organization of Realtors say affordable prices and low interest rates have created a "perfect storm" of buyer-friendly conditions.

Single-family home sales in the Chicago suburbs grew 41 percent in February 2013, compared to the same month in 2012, according to data provided by the Mainstreet Organization of Realtors (MORe). In the south suburbs, sales in the majority of Patch communities aligned with this trend, with 10 out of 14 towns experiencing an increase in sales, three towns experiencing a sales decrease and one town remaining the same year-over-year. Thirteen homes were sold in Oak Forest in February 2013—compared to just 5 in February 2012. The median price dropped 14 percent, from $153,000 to $131,000.  Fourteen homes were sold in Homewood in February 2013, compared to 11 in February 2012—a 27-percent increase. January Home Sales: Oak Forest Starts 2013 With Yearly Increase

Although overall home sales increased in January, the median price of homes in Oak Forest dropped by 14 percent, according to the Mainstreet Organization of Realtors.

The 18 detached, single-family homes sold in Oak Forest during January represented a 12.5 percent increase over January 2012, when 16 homes were sold, according to the Mainstreet Organization of Realtors (MORe). There were 18 homes sold in Oak Forest during December 2012, compared to 15 sold in December 2011. The median price dropped in January, coming in at $135,000—a 14.3 percent decrease over the same month in 2012.  The market for detached, single-family homes in suburbs throughout the Southland saw growth in January, MORe reported. MORe gets its statistics from Midwest Real Estate Data. Evergreen Park saw the largest percent increase, with 850 percent more homes sold year over year in January. Oak Forest Home Sales in December Up from a Year Ago

December saw an increase in the number of homes sold in Oak Forest, along with a jump in the median price of homes sold in December 2011.

The 18 detached, single-family homes sold during December in Oak Forest represented a 20 percent increase over sales during December 2011, according to the Mainstreet Organization of Realtors (MORe). In November, 26 homes were sold in Oak Forest, compared to 23 sold in November 2011. However, the median price of homes sold in December ($147,500) was 1.6 percent lower than the median price of homes sold in December 2011 ($149,900). The market for detached, single-family homes in suburbs throughout the Southland saw growth in December, MORe reported. MORe gets its statistics from Midwest Real Estate Data. Oak Forest home sales increased by 144.4 percent in October, as the bulk of the Chicago area saw a bump in year-over-year comparisons. Check out the numbers and tell us what you think it means for the local housing market.

Oak Forest's real estate market got a boost last month, compared to numbers from October 2011.  The market for detached, single-family homes in suburbs throughout the Southland saw growth in October, according to the Mainstreet Organization of Realtors (MORe). MORe gets its statistics from Midwest Real Estate Data. Oak Forest experienced the most dramatic percent change in the number of homes sold, with an uptick of 144.4 percent in October 2012 over October 2011. The number of actual homes sold this October was 22, compared to the nine sold during the same period last year. There was an article in one of yesterdays papers that talked about companies buying up houses and renting them out. While you can spin the story in a positive way about the jump in sales, the 7% decline in value from last year is not positive and should not be overlooked. I hope the City is ready for an influx of rentals, because it looks like thats whats coming next.   more ›
