At least one Fleadh-goer didn't appreciate cover charges at local bars, and said it stopped him or her from having any Fleadh fun. Do you agree?
Oak Forest's fourth annual Fleadh took over Cicero Avenue Saturday, March 9—with local restaurants and pubs getting in on the fun. Many offered specials, some charged cover, others didn't. But did a hefty cover charge stop patrons from popping into local spots for a cold one? One customer told Patch in an email: It sure did. I wanted to take a walk down Cicero and stop at each of the bars, have a drink, visit, see if there was someone I knew, and move on. I started at Mrs. O'Brien's (no cover) and had one beer. Then I walked down to Marcotte's where there were four big guys that looked like gang bangers that wanted $5 to enter. No …

I'll be out and about with a few of my Patch coworkers during Saturday's Fleadh—and you're going to want to keep an eye out for me. There's even something in it for you—if you say the magic Patch word.
You thought I was joking when I said I'd be back for the Fleadh? I never kid when it comes to the Fleadh. And though I've been gone awhile, there are still several of you who know me as the "Oak Forest Patch Lady." Each time I'm out and about in Oak Forest, I encourage readers to stop me and say hello. Some have said they spotted me and didn't want to "bug" me, or didn't know quite what to say. "Hey Patch Lady!" ... "Hey, Lauren!" ... "YO, TRAUT!" ... "FISH! Heeeeeere Fishy, Fishy!" All of these are acceptable greetings. And you could never bug me. I promise. So during this Saturday's Fleadh, I'm not only encouraging you to hook me for a howdy (and hopefully your confession of how much you love Patch), but I'm downright demanding it. …

Ah, the first day of school—when the pencils are sharp, the folders are crisp, and the kids are smiling. Wait a second. SMILING? Children? Going to school? Yep, you read right. We even have proof! Maybe it's the excitement over choosing their new seat on the bus. Or sharing their sandwich with their best bud. Or meeting their new teacher for the first time. Or finally reaching that major junior high milestone. Heck, maybe they're even stoked to have their last, first day of high school ever. Whatever the reason, these kids are stoked about school. Was yours, too? Share your photos with Patch! Click the giant "Upload photos and video" button, select your favorite photo, and you're all set! OR email your child's photo, name, grade and school…

I was with a group of 13 and we also wanted to walk up and down cicero and visit every bar but we were not going to pay $15 a person ($195 total) to stop at Blarney Stone or Marcottes for a drink or two. We frequent these bars often and it was a shame we could not enjoy them during the pub crawl.   more ›
