Last Chance for Senior Citizens' Day

The Oak Forest Park District is hosting a senior's day on Friday, Sept. 7. The event will be free to attend and run from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. It will also feature a free lunch.

The Oak Forest Park District is ready to host the city's senior citizens for Senior Citizens' Day, at the Oak Forest Community Center on Friday, Sept. 7. The free event will feature entertainment and games from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with lunch served at noon. The event is free to all attendees and is being sponsored by the Oak Forest Park District Board of Commissioners. Old Times Picnic Set for Sunday

The Oak Forest Park District is ready to host its annual picnic, featuring fun, games food and refreshments at Commissioner's Grove.

For the 34th year, the Oak Forest Park District is ready to give back to the community with its Old Times Family Picnic. The event will take place Sunday, Sept. 2, from noon to dusk.  “It's a time for the community to come together, this is our day where we give back to the town,” said McDonald. “It's our biggest event that we host.” McDonald said that the free event has a little bit of something for everyone, including games for children and teens, plus live music for adults later in the night. Games available for children and teens include amusement rides, pony rides and a petting zoo. For teens, McDonald highlighted a water balloon toss that will feature small cash prizes for the top two teams. “We have about four or five kiddie rides, …

Watch 'Tangled' in the Park Friday Night

The first Movie in the Park of the summer is tomorrow. Don't forget a blanket or chair!

The Oak Forest Park District is inviting the community to the first Movie in the Park of the summer on Friday. They'll be showing Disney's Tangled, an animated loosely based on the German fairy tale Rapunzel, starting at dusk in El Morro Park. Bringing a blanket or chair is probably a good idea. Concessions will be available. Everyone who comes receives a free raffle ticket for a chance at some prizes. This year, they include White Sox tickets and gift certificates to Jack Frost and the Original Pancake House The park district also is in the running for a 20-foot screen, projector and speakers. I'm told that the veggies will really start rolling in soon so you should start coming Tuesdays to the Central Building parking lot to get your pick.

Oak Forest's Farmers Market is now entering June and already is featuring locally made products and more treats from the garden. The Market is located in the parking lot at the Oak Forest Park District's Central building on Central Avenue. Hours are 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays. Last Chance: A Trip to a Strawberry Festival

Wednesday is the last day to register for the Oak Forest Park District's tip to the Long Grove Strawberry Festival.

Do you love strawberries? Well, your window of opportunity to sign up for the June 22 Long Grove Strawberry Festival is slowly closing. Sponsoring by the Oak Forest Park District, the fest promises to be "berry" wonderful. The district invites you to "flock to dipping stations for chocolate-covered strawberries, fruit smoothies, ice cream, strawberry donuts and baked goods as well as fresh farm berries." Last Chance: Beginning Blossoms Market Ends Tuesday

This is your last opportunity to hit up the booths before the full Farmers Market rolls into town.

The Beginning Blossoms Market, which has run all through May, is coming to an end Tuesday. Its final market will be open from 3 to 7 p.m. This particular market focused on supplying flowers, plants and other things necessary to get your garden going.   The Farmers Market will officially open next Tuesday, May 29 and runs through October. Both markets can be found at the Central Park Building, 15601 S. The Farmers Market Returns with a Blossoming Beginning

The Beginning Blossoms Market already is up and running but the Oak Forest Farmers Market, coming back for its second year, will soon be upon us.

The Oak Forest Farmers Market is returning for its second year and, already, there is a new treat blossoming. The Park District opened up the Beginning Blossoms Market earlier this month as a kick-start to the full Farmer's Market. This mini-market features vendors supplying flowers, plants and other goods to help gardeners in an early planting season. It runs through May 22. "We have a couple of nurseries, there's a farm (and) ... a couple of people who do yard art," said Kirstin Bardusk, recreation supervisor with the Oak Forest Park District. The Blossoms market runs 3 to 7 p.m., except today, May 15, when it runs from noon to 4 p.m. This year, fans of the Farmers Market can enjoy one that will last the entire growing season, from May …
