What Should Go Here? Business Space Next to Papa John's

The Oak Forest Commons shopping center has plenty of room for local or national business. Today, Patch spotlights one of the locations within the shopping center looking for a business to call it home.

The Oak Forest Commons shopping center features a Papa John's Pizza, nail salons, Food 4 Less and several other businesses. However, it also features several vacant spots that could be the future home to any number of businesses. On the east side of the commons, the storefront is located near to the far east the center and features a glass store front and ample parking in the massive lot for customers. Located on 159th Street, the location sees thousands of potential customers a day drive past the location. Last Chance to Talk Foot Health at Acorn Public Library

Dr. Conway McLean, DPM, is hosting, "Taking Care of Your Feet: A Tour of Podiatric Medicine," at the Acorn Public Library on Thursday, Jan. 10. The event kicks off at 7 p.m. in the library's meeting room.

If foot problems are plaguing you, or if you just want to learn proper health care for you feet, the Acorn Public Library is here to help. On Thursday, Jan. 10, the library will host Dr. Conway McLean, DPM, for a program entitled, “Taking Care of Your Feet: A Tour of Podiatric Medicine.” The program, which takes place from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the library's meeting room, will focus on proper foot care and allow residents to meet a licensed podiatrist to discuss foot care and health. Last Chance to Participate in the Winter Read-A-Thon

The Acorn Public Library is hosting a Winter Read-A-Thon on Saturday, Jan. 5, for children ages 6 to 12 years old. The event is from 1 to 4 p.m.

It's time to crack open a book, get comfy and read, read, read, as the Acorn Public Library will be hosting its Winter Read-A-Thon on Saturday, Jan. 5, from 1 to 4 p.m. The Read-A-Thon, which is open to children ages 6-12 years old, will feature prizes handed out every hour, on the hour, for children still reading. Children who read for the entire three-hour span will be entered in a raffle for one of three gift cards. Participants will be allowed two 15-minute reading breaks and one bathroom pass. Snacks will be available during the course of the event. Children under 8 years old cannot be left alone at the library and must be under the supervision of a parent or guardian. Last Chance for Lego Fun at the Library

The Acorn Public Library is hosting its monthly Lego Club, Dec. 29. Children 6 to 12 years old can participate in the club.

Brick-by-brick, children ages 6-12 can build their fun on Saturday, Dec. 29, at the Acorn Public Library, as part of the Lego Club. The club, which meets once a month, will gather in the meeting room of the library from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. and build as a group. Free Pizza for Oak Forest High School Students at Acorn Public Library

Oak Forest High School students are invited to enjoy pizza and refreshments on Monday, Dec. 17, from 7 to 7:45 p.m. at the Acorn Public Library.

Oak Forest High School students looking for a quiet place to study during finals week don't have to stray far from their school thanks to the Acorn Public Library. To help entice students into the library and beef up their knowledge before the big exams, the library is hosting a pizza party on Monday, Dec. 17, from 7 to 7:45 p.m. The event will take place in the meeting room of the library and is open to all Oak Forest High School students. Last Chance to Donate to Toys for Tots

The deadline for donating to Toys for Tots is quickly approaching in Oak Forest, on Saturday, Dec. 15.

As Christmas inches closer, Oak Forest residents have a few more chances to share their holiday spirit before time runs out. At Oak Forest City Hall, the Oak Forest Police Department has organized a Toys For Tots toy drive, which kicked off Wednesday, Oct. 9, and is currently collecting small, unwrapped toys for those in need. The final day to donate to Toys for Tots is Saturday, Dec. 15.  To donate to the Toys for Tots toy drive, stop by city hall during regular business hours, or if after hours, toys can be dropped off at the Oak Forest Police Department. Last Chance to Watch Oak Forest's Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting

The City of Oak Forest's annual Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting take place Saturday, Dec. 8. Watch the parade along Central Avenue, then the tree lighting festivities at Oak Forest City Hall.

The holidays are officially hitting Oak Forest Saturday, Dec. 8, as the city will hold its annual Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting Ceremony on Central Avenue and at City Hall. The parade, which steps off at Oak Forest High School at 11 a.m., will feature local organizations, churches, groups and more. Once the parade ends, Mayor Hank Kuspa will preside over the tree lighting. Following the parade and tree lighting, don't forget to stop at Oak Forest Fire Station #1 to donate a pint of blood to the Battle of the Badges Community Blood Drive, too. Last Chance for Senior Medicare Program

The City of Oak Forest is offering residents a chance to learn about Medicare, Social Security and more during a Nov. 29 seminar at the Oak Forest Community Center.

Does Medicare cause confusiion and leave you scratching your head? Well, the City of Oak Forest is looking to help seniors who are having trouble understanding Medicare, Social Security, age options and Catholic Charities on Thursday, Nov. 29, at 11 a.m. During the seminar, residents will also be offered Bingo and lunch. Last Chance to Read to Therapy Dogs at Acorn Library

The Acorn Public Library will host two therapy dogs on Saturday, Nov. 24, starting at 2:30 p.m. Readers ages 7 and up can sign up for 10-minute time slots to read to the dogs.

Calling all kids, the Acorn Public Library is bringing in two very special pups and they want to help students improve their reading abilities. This Saturday, Nov. 24, Waylon and Quincy, a pair of therapy dogs, will trot into the Acorn Public Library at 2:30 p.m. The duo will welcome all readers age 7 and up to read to them in 10-minute blocks. Readers can sign up at the library for a time slot. Readers must be on time for their reading appointment or it will be forfeited.
