Let the Games Begin: Lacrosse is Coming to D228

Following the signing of the emerging sports letter by Bremen High School District 228, a club lacrosse team is forming for the 2013 season, with hopes that the team will grow to both boys and girls teams in the coming year.

Lacrosse players, fans and parents in Bremen High School District 228, rejoice! After more than two years of pushing, pulling and prodding, district administration finally signed off on an Illinois High School Association emerging sports agreement letter, allowing for lacrosse to become a district sponsored sport. OF Farmers Market: Just a Few Weeks Left

The Oak Forest Park District's Farmers Market is coming to a close on Tuesday, Oct. 2. So hustle over to the market on Tuesdays, from 3 to 7 p.m. to grab fresh veggies, fruits and crafts while you can.

Time is running out to get fresh produce, handmade crafts and other goodies from the Oak Forest Park District's farmers market, as the last day of the market, Tuesday, Oct. 2, quickly approaches. The market currently features about 15 vendors every Tuesday, outside the park district's fitness center. Park District Commissioner Joe Conway said that while the market has been a moderate success this year, traffic has peetered off compared to the first year. “This summer was year two of the farmers market,” said Park District Commissioner Joe Conway. “As of right now we're down to 15 vendors, though. Oak Forest Resident, Marian Catholic Grad Conway Transforms from Lacrosse Newbie to College Athlete

Even with no lacrosse experience under her belt heading into high school, Hannah Conway instantly was attracted to the fast-paced game.

Peer pressure often is seen as having negative effects on high school students. But for Oak Forest resident and Marian Catholic grad Hannah Conway, it led her to a new sport and a college scholarship. Three years ago, lacrosse was non-existent in Conway’s personal sports world. She had participated in most of the mainstream sports in grammar school and was focused on playing volleyball at Marian Catholic. A couple friends asked Conway to play lacrosse--a relatively new sport at the high school–and Conway agreed to try it, figuring it was a good way to stay in shape. “I liked being active, but it was still something I was learning and I picked it up fast,” said Conway, who played on the JV team as a freshman. “I played with a lot of juniors…
