The weather might not have been exactly what they expected, but a chilly rain couldn't dampen Fleadh-goers' spirits Saturday, March 9. A cold sprinkle and icy coating had 5K runners a little worried, but 540 of the 600 registered decided to layer on the green, lace up and hit the course anyway. By the time others made their way to Cicero Avenue for the rest of the Fleadh activities, the sprinkle had stopped, and the fun was just getting started.  Oak Forest's fourth annual Irish festival included a 5K, a parade and open bike ride, and a pub and restaurant crawl that sent customers flooding nine local establishments.  Take a gander at Oak Forest residents, visitors and elected officals in their finest green attire, strutting their stuff …

Fleadh 2013: Hop On! Miller Lite Offers Free Rides

Miller Lite Free Rides will be offered from noon to 5 p.m. during the Oak Forest Fleadh. The free transportation will make 10 stops on its route, including the Oak Forest Metra Station and all 9 bars and restaurants participating in the Fleadh's open hous

The Fourth Annual Oak Forest Fleadh is right around the corner—in case you missed it, it's Saturday, March 9—and that means the drinks will be flowing from early morning until the wee hours of the night, thanks to the Fleadh bar and restaurant open house. To keep the party safe, Miller Lite will offer its Miller Lite Free Rides program from noon to 5 p.m. The free bus will ferry riders through 10 stops along its route, including all nine bars and restaurants participating in the open house and the Oak Forest Metra Station. Fleadh 2013 Lineup: Mrs. O'Brien's Pub Keeps Guinness Coming for the Fleadh

Each day leading up to the Fleadh, Patch will feature a business participating in the Fleadh's Pub and Restaurant Open House Saturday, March 9.

The 4th annual Oak Forest Fleadh is just 7 days away (that's March 9), and Patch wants to make sure you're ready for all the happenings throughout the day. The latter half of the day features a bar and restaurant open house that kicks off at 5 p.m. and runs until the early morning hours. Hurrah! Here Comes the Fleadh!

The 4th Annual Oak Forest Fleadh kicks off Saturday, March 9, at 8:30 a.m., with the green going strong all day long. Check out our lineup of the day's events, and which restaurants will take part in the event's open house.

Get out your finest green duds and start brushing up on your Irish accent, the 4th annual Fleadh is coming. On Saturday, March 9, the Oak Forest Fleadh kicks off bright and early, with fun flowing throughout the day, into the nighttime hours. Get going in green at 8:30 a.m. with the Oak Forest Fleadh 5K, with the course taking runners through the city's 3rd District before reaching the finish line near 159th Street and Cicero Avenue. Following the 5K, Active Transportation Alliance's Open Bike Ride wheels down Cicero Avenue, from 157th Street to 151st Street. Will We See You in the Oak Forest Fleadh Parade?

If you think you might want to join in the parade fun, you'll have to register by March 1.

Get your green ready! And don't forget some comfy shoes! The 3rd Annual Oak Forest Fleadh family parade will kick off at 157th and Cicero at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 10. The parade line-up will include local businesses, community and civic groups, families, Irish dancers, and more. Registration is free to Oak Forest-Crestwood Area Chamber of Commerce members, community organizations and families. The registration form is included with this article, and the deadline is March 1. And, don’t forget to register for the Fleadh 5k!

15 Reasons to Look Forward to This Year's Fleadh

Patch has compiled 15 ways for you to celebrate your Irish heritage and Oak Forest pride during the third annual Fleadh.

We're a few weeks from the Fleadh, and we're getting a bit antsy. After last year's successful second go at Oak Forest's Irish festival, organizers are hoping this year's will be another hit on Saturday, March 10. And Patch can't wait. Maybe you have yet to attend your first Fleadh. Don't worry—Patch is providing you with a list of 15 ways to make the most of the day. Print it out, grab it and bring it along! 1. Run (or walk) the Fleadh 5K. Kick off the morning at 8:30 a.m. with a brisk run or walk through the heart of the day’s celebrations on scenic Cicero Avenue. A New Direction for the Oak Forest Fleadh Parade

Plans are already under way for next year's Oak Forest Fleadh on March 10.

Next year’s Oak Forest Fleadh will be headed in a different direction. Literally. “We decided to change things up by reversing the course of the parade,” said Chrissy Maher, public relations coordinator for Oak Forest. “We thought it would work better if we went down Cicero Avenue from 157th Street to 151st Street.” Next year’s festival – a partnership between the city and the Oak Forest-Crestwood Area Chamber of Commerce – will take place on March 10 on Cicero Avenue between 159th and 151st streets. “We’re hoping for a bigger and better festival,” said Maher. “We encourage residents to attend and enjoy the day.
