St. Damian School Celebrates $50K U.S. Cellular Contest Win

St. Damian School recently took third place, and won $50,000, in U.S. Cellular's, Calling All Communities Contest. The prize money will be used to purchase interactive technology in to the classrooms at the school.

St. Damian School has a little bit more change in the school's coffers, following a third-place finish in U.S. Cellular's Calling All Communities contest last month. With the support of family, friends and the community, the school earned $50,000 towards school improvements voted on by student's family members. Improvements for the school are slated to include new technology in most classrooms, including the updating of older chalk or white boards to interactive white boards. “We've got interactive whiteboards in the newer building, in some of the high grade classrooms,” Domke said. “This money is going to allow us to retrofit the older ones in the main building, or at least most of them. On Your Marks, Get Set, Go! Damian Dash Coming Soon

St. Damian school is hosting its first-ever Damian Dash 5k, on Saturday, Oct. 13. The event is open to all residents, including St. Damian students, who are already training for the race.

St. Damian School is prepping for a first-time event—one that's sure to draw a crowd and leave everyone a little breathless. The event, the St. Damian Dash, is a 5K walk or run that will take place on Saturday, Oct. 13. “We're hoping this can beome an annual event," said Principal Colleen Domke. All residents are welcome to participate in the event, but train hard because more than 20 students from St. Damian are already training for the event and ready to take you on. “It's a 5K training program,” Domke said. “[Andrea Lampasona] is a marathoner, so she knows what she's doing. She also is one of our science teachers, so she's also teaching the kids about nutrition and those kinds of things.” Domke added that several staff members—including…

20 Years Later, St. Damian Teachers 'Can't Imagine Being Anywhere Else But Here'

Four teachers at St. Damian hit a very big milestone this week—20 years at the school. Principal Colleen Domke, along with the rest of the school community, celebrated the faculty members Monday, Nov. 21 at a special liturgy.

Twenty years later, and four special teachers at St. Damian still can't imagine working in any other school. Teachers Jim Panozzo, Jacqueline Skibinksi, Maggie Cour and Suzanne Hall received a school-wide round of applause, recognition and commemorative plaques during a special Thanksgiving prayer service Monday, Nov. 21. "Every job at our school is so very vital and important in making our school so successful and special. Everyone plays such an important role," said Principal Colleen Domke. "Today we celebrate four of these very special people, who together, are into 80 years of teaching and touching the lives of our young people each and everyday at St. Damian."
