The Bremen Township Building, 15350 Oak Park Avenue, was robbed over the weekend of March 1-4. The burglar(s) made off with approximately $2,500 in cash and left the service window shattered.
Oak Forest police are investigating a robbery of the Bremen Township building, 15350 Oak Park Avenue, after approximately $2,500 was taken sometime between March 1 to 4. An employee reported the robbery around 7:30 a.m. March 4. The man told police that he had noted the main, south door was ajar and when he went inside that the service counter window was shattered. Police investigated the building and did not find a suspect. Officers were able to determine that someone forced open the door and threw a landscaping brick through the service window, shattering it. The office manager, who arrived at the building after police, then showed officers her office, along with her file cabinet. Missing from the cabinet was approximately $2,500 in cash…

Former State Senator Maggie Crotty recently wrapped up 16 years as a state legislator. Now, she'll lead Oak Forest in one of its grandest celebrations.
The Oak Forest-Crestwood Area Chamber of Commerce and the City of Oak Forest are pleased to announce that former state Senator Maggie Crotty of Oak Forest will serve as the grand marshal of the Oak Forest Fleadh family parade on Saturday, March 9. The parade steps off at 11 a.m. at 157th Street and Cicero Avenue. “We are thrilled to honor a woman who has done so much for our community and the state of Illinois,” said Chamber Executive Director Kimberly Malecky-Iles. “We wish her all the best in her future endeavors.” As grand marshal, Crotty and her family will lead more than 80 parade units, including pipe and drum bands, civic and community groups, schools and churches, and local businesses along Cicero Avenue. Oak Forest residents needing help and a warm place during winter's coming blast of bitter cold have nearby options. A cold snap bringing with it wind chills of -15 to -25 degrees could endanger residents who haven't taken proper precaution, warns theNational Weather Service. The city is doing its part in keeping residents safe. Oak Forest residents in need of shelter can visit one of two Bremen Township warming centers, located at 15350 S. Oak Park (Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.), or 16361 S. Kedzie Parkway (Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.). Residents are encouraged to call ahead to be certain centers are open. With about a year left to go in his term, Illinois State Rep. Kevin McCarthy (D-Orland Park) has decided to resign from his post. Now a replacement is needed to hold the seat until Jan. 2013. Choosing that replacement falls mainly to Orland Park Mayor Dan McLaughlin, who serves as the Orland Township Democrat committeeman, as the township comprises over 50 percent of the 37th Illinois House District. Committeemen from Bremen, Frankfort and Thornton townships will also be weighing in on the replacement. After nearly 40 years in a house-turned-youth services department, Bremen Youth Services will have a new home in January. The building has been under construction since 2008, and after some issues with funding, is now nearly complete.

A new home for the Bremen Youth Services Department has been a dream for years. Operating from a converted brick house the last 40 years, the staff has made its current home work for the thousands of kids and families that have trickled in over the years. "Eight gazillion kids have gone through here," joked Youth Services Director Don Sebek. "This place has meant a lot to a lot of people." Work on a modern headquarters near the current location at 153rd and Oak Park Avenue in Oak Forest started in 2008 — after 15 years of fundraising — but stalled in the recession. Local businesses had offered to donate labor and services, but as the recession hit hard that was no longer possible. Now, four years later, those who work on behalf of the kids…
