Following a suspicious voicemail left at the Arbor Park School District 145 offices on Friday, Oct. 14, Oak Forest police verified the call was harmless in nature. The call. and ensuing parent notification system utilized by the district left parents wondering what happened and how the school district handles safety matters. Arbor Park Superintendent Allen Jebens said the district handles emergencies on a case-by-case basis. St. Damian students who live within District 145 boundaries are going to have to find their own ride to school this year, following the stoppage of bus service for those students by the District. The cancellation comes after nearly 30 years of the District providing bus service for St. Damian students. “We've been doing this for years at no cost, until last year was the first time,” said Allen Jebens, District 145 Superintendent. “We have to make sure we have enough funds to make sure we can take care of the children we're obligated to take care of.” Need to find your kids a new way to and from school? I agree! These parents pay taxes to school district 145 but choose to send their children to a private school for whatever reason. They should still be entitled to the use of bus service. What the district receives in tax money from these families probably far outweighs the costs to provide bus service. This has nothing to do with religion at all! Also, $100 is dirt cheap now.
