Great photos!!! I hope all that attended had a great time yesterday, because we sure did! WithRead More each fundraising event, I am truly thrilled at the strong community support for this project! Many new faces came out yesterday, along with our faithful regular supporters who attend each and every fundraiser! Kudos to the Bark For A Park Committee members, who continue to work tirelessly to make these events a success, and to make the park become a reality. Thank you all!

Great turn out... Kristy and I had a blast, even though I am not a Wine Connoisseur, there were aRead More few I would actually purchase. I really enjoyed myself for a great cause... Thank you! Laura for all your hard work, it will defiantly pay off...

Oak Forest has beautiful Parks and it would be a nice addition to have a place for the home owner toRead More have a place for their dog to get exercise and have fun with other dogs their size. I feel it is a wonderful idea!

Didn't realize that 135th & Ridgeland was Oak Forest. Trying to imagine what location they'reRead More talking about there. There's the old Cold Stone Creamery mini mall, 7 Eleven, and forest preserves. Same as southeast corner of 159th and Oak Park. Aurelio's is there as well as those small businesses. Forest preserve also is there. Maybe in between the small businesses and Ingalls where the trees are at? Right off the busy street - not so sure of that.

Jim Watson is a dedicated caring person and is always looking out for others. It has been a pleasureRead More knowing him in the Oak Forest Rotary Club and helping him with the blood drive. You can always count on Jim.

Amazing!!!

I met Jim Watson as a result of Rich Simon spearheading the Veterans Commission effort. ThroughRead More Richs Passion, I have been blessed to meet so many outstanding folks and happy to call Jim Watson my personal good friend. I regretfully Never gave blood until hearing the story of Jims Daughter Joleen. Since then, I am proud to say I have not missed one of Jims/ Rotary's blood drives. Even as I was Santa, Igave blood for one of Oak Forest's own. Craig

I will not support any more fundraisers until I know EXACTLY where this park is going to be built!Read More Nor should anyone else!

We honestly cannot thank you all enough for your support - whether it was by stopping by the popcornRead More garage, buying some w/ your Pizza at Jim's Aurelio's, sending checks to us, or just spreading the word. It is truly humbling to know how much support there is for this Pack and the scout program and how quickly people respond when they know help is needed.

Great example of the Southland coming together with positive results. All we have to do is ask...ItRead More really does take a Village!

Yes I do, this 1st Ward alderman has been very misleading. She had the dog wash and a pastaRead More fundraiser stating that the location would be behind the Food For Less store..now she is going back to her original location that everyone had a fit about in the first place. I will be contacting my alderman of Ward 2 about this since the discussion is about his Ward and he should have a big interest. I also am supposed to be emailed on any updates to the original article from months ago and I never received an email regarding this new meeting. I happened to read Patch today and see it...

I totally understand why you would be concerned. And I believe the forest preserve district isRead More holding the meeting for just this reason—to get a sense of what people really want to see for the land. In regards to this meeting, it only came to light (even to me) a few days ago that Ald. Clemons would be addressing this at the meeting. It's not the only topic that will be addressed, nor is it the only possibility being considered for the land. BUT let me suggest bookmarking us and checking back daily. There's ALWAYS something new, and you don't want to miss a thing, right? :) Also, in the event we might miss something (we know we can't all-knowing, as hard as we try), check the city's website often: www.oak-forest.org. Notice was also posted there. Thanks for the discussion.

This sounds like a really bad idea to me. If Oak Forest dog owners want a dog park, then work withRead More the village to get one on village property, not Cook County Forest Preserve property. A dog park doesn't fit into what the FPDCC is supposed to be doing which is nurturing natural areas for recreational use of all citizens of the area, not just dog owners from the Oak Forest area.

So is the article correct in stating that he is leading the Pi Beta Phi Sorority... or is aRead More collaborative effort with the Sigma Chi Fraternity?

We have been asking for years for a dog park and always thought Oak Forest was not dog friendly. WeRead More run two organizations in the area which have vet visits to teach about socialization, training fundraisers and pet first aid in the area and we had reserved monthly space (pre paid) with the park district two years ago. We even insured the event. On the day it was due to run (less than one hour before) we were told the village cancelled it because they didn't want the liability. So we never saw any support for dog friendly groups. Had we known about this event, we would have further advertised it and ensured all the rescue/foster/animal groups supported it. Which makes sense because in all the years we've lived in the area, we have never received anything from the village (park district items, library, etc.) although we've asked numerous times to be added to the list (though somehow the water bill, and sticker bills make it to our home). Oak Forest needs to get its act together and send publications to all tax payers in its district - had we known about this we would have participated.

Veruka, I am so sorry you did not know about the fundraiser for this great cause! Just to give you aRead More bit of background this is really a grassroots effort and all funding is via fundraisers/private donations. Send an e-mail to Laura Clemons at lclemons@oak-forest.org and she will make sure you are added to the email list for the dog park. Although we do have the support of the village this is not a village project. No taxpayer money is involved and through the hard work of volunteers we are trying our best to make this a reality and hopefully breakground by Spring. I know that we will be having another fundraiser at the begining of next year but do not know the dates, etc. but Laura can get you all the information. We would love for your support and welcome all to be a part of this effort, we need all the help we can get!

Hi, Veruka, I'm sorry you didn't know about the event, and I understand you're disappointed youRead More missed it. Can I make a suggestion? Bookmark Oak Forest Patch, and check back frequently. We've been following the dog park process from the very first meeting, and we plan to continue. Also, you can find Bark for a Park on Facebook (if you're a user), where the committee publishes notice of each fundraiser, photos of the events, and more great information! Thanks for reading, and I hope you'll let OF Patch help keep you informed. :) Lauren Traut Editor, Oak Forest Patch
