I'd like to give a shout out to Mrs. Linda Seibert at Scarlet Oak School in Oak Forest. My son isRead More on the Autism Spectrum/ADHD and she has trully been a blessing to him this year. Her patience, kindness and her ability to get him to learn and focus has been tremendous. Her knowledge of children like Zack has helped him succeed...not all teachers "get" children like him. She "GETS" it!!! Zacks "team" at Scarlet deserves a HUGE shout out too. It takes an army of people to help him achieve his goals and they do it daily! Parents and children are always greeted with a smile. I just love Scarlet Oak Schoool!!!

I would like to thank District 142 for another AWESOME school year!!! If I even tried to name justRead More one or even two, I would be short-changing ALL of our "ROCK STAR" administration AND teachers we have at DISTRICT 142!!! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for always going above and beyond for our kids! I am proud to be part of such a caring and committed school district. Keep up the GREAT work!

The girl was reported missing in the morning The report was being entered and never completedRead More later in the afternoon. No Amber Alert. What if she had been kidnapped? How many hours elapsed? Happy she was not at risk
Joe Vince (Editor) May 21, 2013 at 04:56 pm
@Anonymous: Actually, I believe she was found in the morning, fairly soon after her mother had comeRead More in. And while the official report hadn't been filed, officers were clearly on the lookout for the girl. One other factor to consider: We don't know the circumstances surrounding any of this. Amber Alerts are very specific. They're not just for missing children. They're for children who authorities suspect have been abducted. Joe Vince Tinley Park-Oak Forest Editor

When is the next home baseball game for the Bengals?
Joe Vince (Editor) May 21, 2013 at 02:36 pm
@NANCY GRACE: There isn't. Oak Forest doesn't host any regional or sectional games in baseball thisRead More season. Joe Vince Tinley Park-Oak Forest Editor

@rich simonsis: I spoke with the Oak Forest AD today for a story that will run tomorrow about howRead More difficult this year has been to schedule the postseason because of last month's crazy weather (in fact, your comment was what inspired this, so thank you). Two other alternate times were suggested by the schools, including Saturday. But both were shot down by the IHSA because of conflicts with the officials. And the IHSA has final say on any changes. I'm writing the story now, and it'll outline the factors involved with this. Joe Vince Tinley Park-Oak Forest Editor

thank you i still believe there could have been some alternative so these girls did not have toRead More make a choice between missing some of their prom or missing a playoff game
rich simonsis May 20, 2013 at 07:53 pm
also i was told when the saturday morning time was suggested of said we could not do this dateRead More because it was their prom

Go Gretchen- Go! I couldn't have said this any better. I have NEVER met anyone as rude andRead More arrogant as Mr. Turner. His infamous temper tantrums showed his real side. Don't think you can 2 years later in a meek voice commend Hillcrest and that people will forget your arrogant and rude behavior. The most amazing thing though, is that for all the times Turner blew Hillcrest and the administrators, especially the ones dealing with his children-Dr. Kendall, never once- stood up to him and said we don't act that way- I have trust and faith in my administrators... kendall would NEVER do that- he does not have the courage or the capacity as a human being to do that- wonder what he would do if this was about his buddy Dr. Molan at TP- where nothing ever seems to get to newspaper....

We need more new blood. In two years let's get rid of a couple of more self-serving blood suckersRead More of our kids education. 1 Sharon Rybak 2. Mensing. These folks don't give a damn about anything but themselves. Why don't they include the students in evaluating the districts plans, or seek their feedback on what they have done.
mikhail lindernhurst II April 20, 2013 at 09:26 pm
I agree--Wasn't Rybak part of the problem 8 years ago? And Rev. Mensing who needs to stop using hisRead More collar for his views and wishes for education they should be separated. People should know how self-promoting Mensing is…. Employees receive an email of appreciation a couple times a year from board members. Mensing creates 3page email to the staff with 98% of his comments are self-serving and personal agenda driven. He like the rest does not understand they should not be the spotlight, they should not be the centerpiece- shouldn’t it be the kids? Also, in the 7 years Kendall has been Supt. NOT ONE TIME HAS HE EVER SENT AN EMAIL TO STAFF THANKING THEM FOR WHAT THEY DO. Yes we get paid, yes we get benefits. Every once in a while, shouldn’t the people in the trenches send a thank you just because? He is continually praised every year when the board extends his “evergreen” contract so that it stays at 5 years. Just once a simple thank you a simple “you are supported” etc… Would go a long way.

two years of arguing, discussing, debating for a sport. How much time have we spent on academics?Read More How to increase tests scores? How to help our school continue to develop their students to be productive. I am so ashamed of this board because 6 years ago they had a chance to heel and to grow and instead same garbage different bag. Dr. Kendall and his board did it again- approve this sport 1 week before elections. For a man who has a lukewarm IQ and no real knowledge of how to operate such a big School District it amazing how many horse shoes he has. The man should be working in Las Vegas. Still, taxpayers need to look at the whole picture before the election. Is the district better off today than 6 years ago? have scores increased? Has graduation rates increased? Have students who take AP & Honors classes increased? Has morale increased? Prettu sure if you looked inside the answers to all of these questions would be NO. We need change~!

yes
Sheldon Bermann IV March 28, 2013 at 11:48 pm
What is going to happen when a student from Hillcrest cannot afford to pay for participating in theRead More sport? Because people believe they are entitled who will then be on the hook for covering the cost of the particiption for those who cannot pay for it? Will Dr. Kendall then call the building, drop the problem that he has just cretaed for political purposes in the lap of the building administration and then do what he does best and reverse the decision that will be made so that he can tell the board how much the community loves him because he doesn't have the courage to stand by his administrators?
