I love it! I wish more people had a sense of patriotism. I also wish patriotism was somethingRead More people felt and practiced more than once or twice a year! I don't know these homeowners, but am thankful for their hard work and display!

Nice. Too bad most people on my block don't fly the American flag. I fly my the flag all year. SomeRead More people on Sycamore lane in Oak forest have never put up a American Flag. They take their freedom for granted. This is very sad. On Memorial Day you would think you would see a American Flag on every house, to honor our military, for ones that have fought for us to keep us free and give us the freedom to worship all religions. But no! The sad thing people don't care. Even the Oak forest fireman on this block does not fly a flag. Very sad and very lazy.
Lost power, toppled trees and power lines and other damage in the Southland this week.

Two years ago i had an experience with Com.Ed I would like to share with you.The power went outRead More during a storm. A day later a Com Ed rep, not a repair crew, showed up and began to look over the problem.I got into an argument with her because she didn't even know which pole fed my block. At three am a tree trimming crew showed up but none of them spoke English! They were looking for the branch that had knocked the power line down.Problem was that there was no branch down.then three days after it went off a real repair crew just reset the fuse that had blown down the line.A simple fix totally screwed up because the ComEd rep did not have a clue.

I finally got power back Thursday night. As for their response, we'll get to you when we get to youRead More was a little unprofessional. as for the hike, it's stupid it sucks, but what's the point if fighting. they will find a way to get it, they always do.

Like many folks in HF, I put my downed branches/tree sections in my parkway. Does anyone know if ourRead More local government(s) will be picking up this debris or do we have to make arrangements ourself?

We don't often get storms of this character in Chicago-proper the magnitude of which gives us moreRead More than a concerned eye for those unprotected in the outskirts .

In Joke Forest ill you don't need to go park district. You can watch them on 4900 block of SycamoreRead More lane., The police never come when called.

None ya business June 18, 2014 at 12:16 pm
We went by Catherine's Gardens and signed up for an email blast giving us instructions on Aaron'sRead More arrival. No email yet, but we have our ribbon's. Info from them was that they had the route covered with ribbons....so someone HAS the route. Anyone know what it is? Info on services?

I think we already had enough warnings. You would have to be from outer space not to know to stayRead More away from the Kennedy expressway. It has been the opening story on almost every newscast for over a week.

Sorry to hear this but, what was he tinting leaving the dog alone all night?? And how was he gettingRead More away with this? Every dog-friendly motel I have stayed in has a strict "dog not to be left alone in room" policy.

Melissa-great feedback and thank you for taking the time to stop by (twice). I was disappointed asRead More well at the lack of vendors especially some very key vendors. I can assure you that the market committee will be working extra hard this week to track those missing vendors down and to lock them in. Overall, the amount of foot traffic at the market was impressive which tells us that the community truly wants a market and will support it. If there is one thing I've learned about vendors it's that while they are skeptical of new markets, they also talk to each other. My guess is that we will be getting phone calls this week from vendors who heard about our foot traffic and now want to be part of the market. Thanks again for your feedback and your support. See you and hopefully many others again this coming weekend!

Personally drove out to Glenwood this morning to speak with the owners of Zeldenrust Farms. They areRead More a definite lock and will be at our market this coming Saturday. Keep in mind though that almost no crops are in as of today except for spinach and maybe asparagus. Zeldenrust will bring what they have harvested so far and if you stop and talk with them they will be able to give you some idea of when other crops will be harvested. Also, I understand that our fruit vendor out of South Haven contacted the park district and apologized for missing last Saturday assuring us he will be there this coming Saturday.

That's awesome, I'll be back this Saturday!

Those dogs were most likely dumped. People dump their dogs and cats out of their cars in the forestRead More preserves all the time. There is a new stray by me almost weekly here in Arbor Park! People suck.

It was a nice showing for the first week. The prices were high, and the funnel cakes were underdoneRead More and too doughy. The dog treats were $5.50 for a 3 ounce bag. Had a $5.50 mocha iced coffee. Wasn't worth $5.50. Nice perennials, but a little high at $8.00.

Very disappointed. My idea of a farmers market is ALOT of fresh fruits and vegetables and maybe aRead More little jam and bread on the side. This was more like a flea market. Junk food galore - get your kettle corn and fried dough. Definitely will not return.
Susan June 2, 2014 at 11:45 pm
I went to check out the farmer's market in Chicago Ridge today. It is their first one ever. ItRead More runs from 2 - 7. They had a garden club selling potted herbs and plants, bread, tamales, organic meats, kettle and cheese corn, honey and honey products, a man who sharpens knives, outdoor plants and flowers, a hot dog vendor, a cooking demonstration at 5 and the library booth had story time for the kids that ran around 40 minutes. Not to shabby for their first time.
