Making plans for the weekend? Patch has rounded up a list of events and activities going on in and around Oak Forest.

If nothing matters but the weekend, you better plan it out. Patch is here to help by spotlighting some of what's going on Friday, Saturday and Sunday in and around Oak Forest.

Acorn Comic-Con Comes to Library

Comic conventions aren't just for cities like Chicago and San Diego. Oak Forest gets its first thanks to the Acorn Public Library's Acorn Comic Comic-Con. The convention will feature drawing and cosplay (dressing up as characters from comics and anime) contests, as well as a screening of one of the classic films by Japanese animation great Hayao Miyazaki (My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki's Delivery Service, Spirited Away). Attendees also will be able eat some candy sushi, have their face painted like a zombie face and check out the Artist's Alley that will feature art from local teens. This event is aimed at kids 11 to 17 years old.

When: 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17
Where: Acorn Public Library
