This Week's Pets: Two Very Special Cat Stars

Two-year-old domestic shorthair Texas is a hit at He bursts out of his cage and races up cat trees, darting after dangling strings and pouncing on other toys. He is playful and athletic, and can be a bit pushy during playtime with other cats—except for Erica. 

Meet his playmate Erica, another 2-year-old domestic shorthair that isn't shy about telling Texas when she's had enough. Erica is a tabby with four white paws, which she uses to bat him away if he comes on too strong. She enjoys playtime, but wouldn't mind simply curling up with her owner.

Both cats are nominees in the shelter's first Acatemy Awards, a special event to highlight some of the shelter's favorite felines. They were chosen because of the extended length of time they've both spent at shelter. People can vote for Texas and Erica (the stars of "War Kitty"), or their favorite nominees on the PAWS website, and the winners will be announced at the awards show Sunday, Feb. 26 at noon.
