Oak Fest Recognizes Local Heroes with Salute

The festival began Thursday and runs through July 4.

Oak Fest launched its seven-day long festivities Thursday and took a few moments that night to honor men and women in uniform with a Salute to Hometown Heroes.

Mayor Hank Kuspa and Alderman Chuck Toland thanked those servicing in the armed forces as well as police, paramedics and firefighters. The cereomy also honored first responders, hospital workers and , the student who recently return home after suffering severe head trama after being being hit by a car.

The 25-year run of Oak Fest has provided opportunities for local organizations to raise money and volunteer as a member of the community.

"If it wasn't for the hard work of our commissioners, it (the fest) wouldn't happen," Kuspa said.

The ceremony concluded with music provided by the Marching Band and a plentiful fireworks display.
