UPDATE: And the Winner in Voting for Patch Athlete of the Week is ...

Oak Forest's Courtney Kachlik busted loose in a career-high scoring performance in the championship game of the Evergreen Park Class 3A Regional. Then, she outpolled five others in voting for Patch Athlete of the Week honors.

Oak Forest's Courtney Kachlik outpolled five others in voting for Patch's Athlete of the Week, Feb. 12-18. Now, she is eligible for February Patch Athlete of the Month recognition.

The candidates:

Jubril Adekoya, junior, center/forward, boys basketball, Andrew. Adekoya delivered two more double-doubles as the T-Bolts notched victories No. 20 and 21 and became the winningest Andrew boys basketball team since 1989-90. Adekoya had 18 points and 16 rebounds in a 53-43 victory over Sandburg. Then, he followed up with 19 points and nine rebounds in a 58-31 victory over Thornridge.

Mark Duda, sophomore, wrestling, Marist. Duda won 3-of-4 matches and placed second in the 113-pound weight class in the Class 3A state tournament at Assembly Hall in Champaign. His bid for the title was dashed in a 5-4 loss to Jordan Northrup of Machesney Park Harlem.

Bria Gaines, junior, center, girls basketball, Bloom Township. Gaines scored 63 points and hauled down 35 rebounds as the Blazing Trojans closed their season with a 64-40 victory over Kankakee, then fell to Mother McAuley (54-48) in Class 4A regional action.

Courtney Kachlik, senior, center/forward, girls basketball, Oak Forest. Kachlik picked a prime time to step up her game. She went 7-for-7 and scored a career-high 16 points in the Bengals’ 46-43 victory over Rich South in the Class 3A Evergreen Park Regional championship game. For Oak Forest, the regional title was the Bengals’ first since 2007-08 and third since 1995-96.

Kyle Langenderfer, junior, wrestling, Lincoln-Way East. Langenderfer edged St. Rita’s Tim Corse 5-4 to win the 138-pound championship in the Class 3A state tournament at Assembly Hall in Champaign. The victory capped a 42-2 season for Langenderfer and put the exclamation point on his climb up from a second-place finish in 2011.

Matt Veldman, senior, swimming, Sandburg. Veldman won the 100-yard butterfly with a pool-record time of 50.33 seconds and led the Eagles to the Sandburg Sectional title with 307 points. The Eagles qualified six individuals and three relay teams for the IHSA state meet.
