This Weekend: Improvisation, Dog Washing and Yoga

Performing arts, sports, kid friendly and charitable events this weekend, July 21 - 24, in the Orland, Palos, Tinley and Oak Forest area.

Just like an 1848 gold prospector, we all need to find a little piece of treasure every now and then. Look no further, Patch has turned over every stone, panned every river and scoured every event calendar to find little nuggets of fun that make an awesome weekend.

This weekend we found the "mother lode" of activties for kids, families, and pets.

Kid Friendly

July 23, 11am–1pm |
Let your kids learn about such as alligators and snakes at the Marquette Bank.

July 23, 6pm–8pm |
Join the celebration of all eight Harry Potter movies. Experience the excitements of a movie set from auditions to special effects. Feel free to dress as your favorite character. This event is recommended for grades 3 - 8. Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult. Registration is required.

July 21, 6:30pm–7:30pm |
See what "magic" scientists performed in "ye old days" such as water that defies gravity. Learn a trick or two to impress your friends. This event is recommended for children ages 7 and up. Registration is required.

Performing Arts

July 22, 7:30pm–10:30pm |
Watch improv troupes Kidz on the Bridge and Graffiti on the Fourth Wall perform. Later, get an opportunity to perform when audience members are invited to tell jokes, do a monologue or improv. Tickets are $5 in advance and may be purchased at the .

July 21-23, 8pm | 
See a classic family comedy brought to the stage when Curtain Call Theatre performs "Cheaper by the Dozen".  Tickets are $10 at the door.

July 22, 7:30pm | Dorothy Menker Theater
Sizzle with hot swing, soulful blues, vocal jazz, and big band music played by the Moraine Valley Jazz Ensemble. Admission is free.


Fridays at 7:30am & 9am |
Get closer to nature and build your core strength with Yoga on the Green at Silver Lake Country Club. Bring a yoga mat, towel, and bottle of water. Each class is $10. RVSP is requested (email yoga@silverlakecc.com), but not required. In questionable weather, yoga will be moved indoors.

Charitable Events

July 24, 10am–3pm | I’ll Be Doggone
Get your furry friend washed and support Crossroads Shih Tzu Rescue at the same time! The wash, hosted by I'll Be Doggone, costs $15 ($10 of which goes to Crossroads). To participate, call I'll Be Doggone at (708) 479-7730 and schedule a dog wash.
