Oak Forest Volleyball Has Strong Showing in Blue Demon Invitational

Bengals' golf squads earn solid victories; football team picks up pieces after letting game slip away.

The girls volleyball team went 1-1 in pool play to advance to the championship bracket of the Blue Demon Invitational this past weekend, losing to Lake Forest in two games and then rallying back to beat De La Salle 24-26, 25-13, 15-12.

In the championship bracket quarterfinals, Oak Forest defeated Riverside-Brookfield 25-22, 25-22 in two close games. But the Bengals’ run came to an end with a tough 21-25, 20-25 loss to Trinity in the semifinals.

Maine South defeated Trinity for the tournament title on Saturday.

The Bengals also improved to 5-0 in conference with two-game wins over Eisenhower and Richards earlier in the week. 

Golf: Three More Dual Match Wins

Oak Forest garnered another two dual match victories last week, led by a pair of Joshes. The Bengals beat Andrew 164-176, led by medalist Josh Napoli, who shot a 37. They followed that performance two days later with a dominating 167-195 win over Richards. Josh Griffin took home medalist honors by shooting a 40 for nine holes.

On the girls side, Oak Forest defeated Andrew 204-212 with Sam Sandoval and Jaelae Pytko earning medalist honors for the match. They both shot 47 on nine holes, tying with Andrew’s Erin Browne. 

Football: Bengals Falter Down the Stretch

, scoring 20 straight points to come back from a 13-0 deficit in the fourth quarter and beat the Bengals 20-13 in overtime.

Oak Forest did a lot of good things early on. Its defense was aggressive and showed good tackling, while the ground game featuring Tevin Coleman and Matt Barry controlled time of possession. But too many turnovers on offense (3) and some questionable play-calling late in the fourth quarter proved to be the difference.

Girls Tennis: Bengals Fall in Three Matches

Oak Forest had a tough run last week, taking losses to Illiana Christian, Tinley Park and Lemont.

Oak Forest’s No. 2 and No. 3 doubles teams garnered the points in its 3-2 loss to Tinley Park. Lauren Acevedo and Carrie Mazzuca rallied in three sets at No. 2 doubles to move their record to 2-0 in the South Suburban Blue conference. Jessica Kwiatkowski and Amanda Perlinski won in straight sets at No. 3 doubles.
