First Look: Oak Forest Drops 3A Baseball Title Game to Kaneland

Bengals' run ends on a sour note in 11-3 loss to Knights on Saturday afternoon at Silver Cross Field.

Eventually, the sting of losing the last game will subside. Oak Forest players and coaches will treasure the memories of the Bengals' most successful IHSA state baseball tournament run in more than 25 years.

The run turned to a crawl, though, in the late innings Oak Forest's 11-3 loss to Kaneland in the Class 3A state championship game on Saturday at Silver Cross Field in Joliet. The Bengals were bidding to win their first state title since 1985.

Instead, they can claim to be second best.

Oak Forest (27-8-1) took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth inning on a two-run single by designated hitter Jason Hine. Kaneland countered with two runs in the bottom of the fourth and busted the game open in a six-run fifth.

Joe Camiliere had three hits for the Knights (26-10). Bobby Thorson added two hits and two RBIs. John Zubek paced the Bengals with three hits. Brian Richard and Bobby Sheppard each had two hits.

Waterlook defeated Nazareth Academy 6-1 in the Class 3A third-place game.
