Oak Forest Closes Out Stirring Girls Soccer Season

Bengals fall 3-0 in Lemont Regional championship showdown, but they have plenty of positives to reflect upon.

Oak Forest was able to stay toe-to-toe with Lemont in the first half of Friday’s girls soccer showdown.

However, the Indians broke loose for three second-half goals, and the Bengals’ season came to end with the 3-0 loss in the Class 2A Lemont Regional championship game.

“This was definitely our best season in my three years,” Oak Forest coach Stacey Lane said. “We progressively increased our wins and decreased our losses every year.”

Lane added that her team’s goals-against total was great this year.

“We decreased our goals-against number by 16, which is phenomenal,” she said. “And the year before, we decreased them by almost the same number, so we’re definitely making strides. Our goals-for are increasing and our goals-against are decreasing.”

Lane is sad to see her seniors go. She said they meant a lot to her because they helped as she implemented her coaching style.

“When I came in they were sophomores, and my way of doing things was maybe different than the person who was here before me,” she said. “And they embraced my philosophy and my style of coaching soccer and they’ve demanded that from everybody who’s come up behind them, and that’s really important for the program to grow.”

Conference Titles in Baseball, Volleyball
