No Questioning Bengals' Intensity on Volleyball Court

Richards defeated Oak Forest in a hotly contested boys volleyball match Thursday. Also, Oak Forest's baseball team has an ace in hand.

It was a battle, but s boys volleyball team dropped a conference match to the visiting Bulldogs in three games, 25-18, 19-25, 22-25, on Thursday night.

“They’re a good team, and it’s always a great match when we play Richards,” Oak Forest coach Amanda Brown said. “It usually does go three (games) and it’s fun and it’s back-and-forth.”

Brown said her team was pressing a little too much.

Oak Forest’s baseball team (2-0-1 through Thursday) is off to a hot start largely because of pitcher Kyle Funkhouser, who has a 0.00 ERA in 11 innings pitched through Thursday. He had only allowed two hits and walked just two hitters while striking out 16 in two starts.

“We are very young and are continuing to improve every day,” Bengals coach Thaddeus Gatton said in an email.

On Track

Heading into the weekend, Oak Forest’s boys track team had only one meet—at the H-F Co-ed Indoor Meet. Coach Tom Monahan said his top performers include Tevin Coleman, Angelo Jackson, Josh Driver, Alex Hansen and Brandon Ivins. Coleman competed at the indoor state meet last weekend in the long jump and 55-meter dash.

Monahan is excited to see Hansen’s performance in the discus this season.

“Alex has been one of our top performers in shot put and will do well in the discus once we get outside. Brandon should have success in the mile/2-mile throughout the year,” Monahan said in an email.
