Hot Shot: Oak Forest's Emma Martinus Lights Up Athlete of Week Scoreboard
Martinus led the District 228 girls water polo co-op team to the team title at the Bremen Tournament.
The District 228 girls water polo team was in a hole against Lincoln-Way North. However, Oak Forest junior Emma Martinus wasn’t about to let her team go down quietly.
“She came out shooting,” coach Sue O’Sullivan said.
Martinus netted five goals and District 228 came back to defeat Lincoln-Way North 11-8 on Thursday. Then, on Friday, the District 228 co-op team followed up with an 18-10 win over Stagg in the Bremen Tournament. Martinus scored six goals.

She erupted for 10 more goals on Saturday as the District 228 co-op team won two games and took the title at the Bremen Tournament. Included was an 11-9 victory over Marian Catholic that wrapped up the championship.
As a result of her strong performance, Martinus is Patch’s Athlete of the Week.

“She’s not afraid to take action in the water,” O’Sullivan said. “She’s not going to sit around and watch plays go by.”
