Home Movies: Oak Forest Raiders Had Something to Cheer About in 2011

Patch spotlights videos that give you a different look at the community, past and present. This week features a first-place performance by the Oak Forest Raiders fourth-grade cheerleading team. Registration for the 2013 season is this month.

Home Movies features videos from Patch, from around the web and from readers that showcase Oak Forest and its residents. Want your video featured? Upload it to our Neighborhood Gallery and email me at joev@patch.com to say you want to see it in Home Movies.

Last week, Home Movies featured baseball, the quintessential spring and summer sport (at least in the United States). So it probably seems a bit odd to turn the spotlight on cheerleading, something that's tightly tethered to football, the king of cold weather competition (sorry, hockey).

But there's a method to this seeming madness. The Oak Forest Raiders, a midget football and cheerleading program in the city, is getting ready for its 2013 season, which begins in August.

Registration for the Raiders—for football players and cheerleaders—is around the corner on April 20 at the organization's concession building at 156th Street and Natalie Drive, behind the Oak Forest Park District. Go to the Raiders website for all the details.

The videos this week take a look at what cheering for the Raiders is like. The first video is footage from a November 2011 competition for the group's fourth-grade division. The other video is a montage of the 2012 team.
