Gimme 5: Oak Forest's Coleman Sets His Sights on the NFL

Bengal junior Tevin Coleman is a both a track and football standout.

Oak Forest track standout Tevin Coleman enjoyed tremendous success at the Thornton Classic. Coleman won the long jump (22-6) and took second in the 100 meter dash (10.8).

With that combination of speed and power, it should some as no surprise that Coleman also shines on the Oak Forest football team. The junior running back says that while he enjoys track, he likes football better.

Coleman gave football a try even though he initially viewed himself as a basketball player.

“At first, I wanted to play basketball when I was little,” Coleman said. “But we couldn’t find any basketball tryouts and football tryouts were right across the street from my house, so I tried out. I was good and I fell in love.”

He said most of the Big 10 schools are looking at him for football and that ideally he would go to Illinois. He wants to study criminal justice to have as a backup plan in case football doesn’t work out after college.

“I see myself in the NFL really," Coleman said. "That’s where I want to go. That’s my plan."

Coleman said he appreciates all the support he has been given by his football and track coaches at Oak Forest. “I like the coaches,” he said. “They’re very supportive. They care for me and they do good things for me.”
