Gimme 5: Learning and Having Fun Go Hand in Hand for Oak Forest Blue Demons

Oak Forest Baseball Association Vice President Rick Septoski talks about the goals of the organization.

During the Oak Forest slugger gathered quite a following of youngsters. Many members of the Oak Forest Blue Demons baseball program gathered to watch Barry swing for the fences.

Who knows—one of the Blue Demons might be swinging the bat at Bengal Field in the not-too-distant future.

The 12-and-under Blue Demons team just finished up the Battle of the Burbs tournament at Convent Park in Oak Forest. Patch had the chance to catch up with Oak Forest Baseball Assocation Vice President Rick Septoski, who shared the association’s goals for the kids involved.

“Our goal is to make sure that every kid has a good time, that they learn the fundamentals, that they get better at baseball—but that they have a good time, no matter what level they are,” he said.

Septoski also hopes the kids learn about teamwork.

“I hope they learn to play as hard as they can and as best as they can,” he said. “I hope they learn to have a good time. And I hope they learn that it’s not all about winning, it’s just all about playing and having a good time.”
