got trampled by the host Downers Grove South Mustangs early in Friday night's game and never fully recovered. Rice fell 41-14 to bow out of the Class 8A state playoffs.
The first half was all Mustangs. Downers Grove South came out of the gate fast with a 48-yard TD pass from quarterback A.J. Simoncelli to running back Josh Williams. On the last play of the half, Mustangs kicker Anthony Farinella hammered home a 47-yard field goal with distance to spare. The score was 27-0, Downers Grove South, at the half.
Brother Rice came out firing on all cylinders in the second half with two touchdowns (27 yards and 2 yards) in the third quarter by running back Andrew Walker. That brought the game within reach at 27-14. But the Crusaders weren't able to muster any more offense and the hosts piled on some insurance points.
