Former Bengals Basher Barry Heading to Daytona State

Recent Oak Forest graduate Tim Barry has signed a letter of intent for Daytona State after previously considering Kansas State.

Former Oak Forest High School baseball slugger Tim Barry has signed a letter of intent to attend Daytona State and play baseball in the fall rather than attend Kansas State, according to the Tim Barry Home Run Record Watch Facebook page.

Barry is currently playing for the Crestwood Panthers. In a doubleheader last Sunday, he went 2-for-6 with three walks.

In his senior season with Oak Forest this spring, Barry became Illinois’ all-time high school leader in home runs and RBIs. He finished with 53 homers and 203 RBIs in his career with the Bengals, and he helped lead the team to a second-place finish in state this year.

Bears to Host Football Camp in July

The Chicago Bears will hold a non-contact football camp at Reavis High School from July 11-15. The weeklong day camp is for kids 6 to 14 years old.

“The Bears believe the safe, non-contact program model is the most effective way to teach the kids, while providing comfort to parents with concerns about tackle football,” a news release stated.

All instructors at the camp have high school or college coaching experience, and other instructors are former Bears players, according to the release.

“We want football to be accessible to kids,” program director Tom Finks said in the release. “In order to do this, the camps need to be conveniently located, safe and high quality. We have tremendous coaching resources, including many alumni Bears players. The non-contact format allows us to safely introduce the game to newcomers, while at the same time we can challenge and develop experienced players.”

According to the release, the full retail price is $389, but group discounts, customer discount opportunities and payment plans are available, as are financial aid scholarships.
