Homecoming games have a natural tendency of amping up the host teams, and Oak Forest was no different Friday.
The Bengals were a crackling ball of energy from the moment they burst through their pregame banner and took the field against Hillcrest. The offense scored quickly on its first possession of the game as quarterback Nick Ciufia shed tacklers on his way to the end zone.
In the second quarter, Nick Cszewski sprinted in for Oak Forest's second touchdown and the lead in the game. The scoring drive came after a series of plays that didn't initially seem to go in the Bengals' favor.
Inches from the end zone, Ciufia fumbled the ball on the 1 yard line, and Hillcrest recovered. But on the next play, the Oak Forest defense stood firm at the line and caused a safety. The Bengals got the ball back on the proceeding free kick and turned a potential momentum-shattering turnover into a nine-point swing in their favor.
