Football: L-Way East Routs L-Way Central to Stay Unbeaten

Lincoln-Way East 42, Lincoln-Way Central 7: J.J. Robertson scores three TDs in the first half as the Griffins beat the Knights for the 11th straight time dating back to 2002.

Breaking It Down: scored on its first two offensive plays from scrimmage Friday night, and never responded as the visiting Griffins built a 42-0 lead at halftime to induce the running clock in New Lenox. With their 42-7 victory, the Griffins improved to 7-0 overall and 5-0 in the Southwest Suburban Blue.

Junior Nick Colangelo scored on an 80-yard run just 14 seconds into the game and Griffins quarterback connected with J.J. Robertson on a 75-yard touchdown pass on the team's second possession to make it 14-0. Robertson added two more touchdown catches in the first half. The Knights failed to find the end zone in the opening half and had only 97 yards of total offense by halftime.

Lincoln-Way East Stat Pack: Quarterback Blake Winkler was 14-of-21 passing for 303 yards and four touchdowns. Nick Colangelo rushed for 110 yards on four carries. J.J. Robertson caught four passes, including three for touchdowns, and amassed 165 total yards. Jay Yancy had a team-high five catches for 66 yards.

Lincoln-Way Central Stat Pack: Brett Ditchman had 68 rushing yards on 22 carries and scored the lone touchdown for the Knights. Cobi Christiansen was 8-of-21 passing for 76 yards. Kevin Ward had four catches for 24 yards and Nick Bechtold had four catches for 60 yards.

Quotable I: Lincoln-Way East QB Blake Winkler on the quick start by the Griffins: "It's always nice to be in the driver's seat all game. We're a big-play team, but we can make plays up and down the field and sustain the longer ones. It was nice to get off to a big lead and coast from there."
