Oak Forest Football Turns to its Superman in Round 1 of 6A Playoffs

Oak Forest spottted Thornton Fractional North a 20-point lead in Friday's Class 6A football playoff opener. But Tevin Coleman led the Bengals back to a dramatic 48-26 victory.

Down 20-0 and being completely outplayed in the first half by Thornton Fractional North, Oak Forest oddly did not seem rattled in Friday's Class 6A football playoff opener.

Maybe it had something to do with the fact the Bengals have Tevin Coleman on their side and most other teams don’t have a player of his caliber and most teams don't have the capability to rally for a 48-26 victory just like that.

Oak Forest can flip the switch and turn on Tevin.

Coleman gave the Bengals a spark midway through the second quarter on an 18-yard scamper to cut the T.F. North lead to 20-7. The burst of speed Coleman exhibited showed those in attendance that he had a step up on every Meteor defender.

He took over in the third quarter in impressive fashion.

With the momentum slowly turning to the Bengals side, Oak Forest took possession of the ball on its own 35 after a defensive stop. Coleman scampered 65 yards for a touchdown on the next play.

After the Bengals stopped the Meteors again, Coleman took the ball to house on the first play from scrimmage again, giving Oak Forest (7-3) a lead it would not relinquish.

“We owe this win to Tevin (Coleman)," Bengals coach Brian McDonough said. "He took over the game for us."

“We didn’t panic, and knew we would eventually wear them out and get the lead,” Coleman said.

Next, the Bengals face Lemont in another South Suburban Blue Conference rematch. The Indians topped the Bengals 41-13 on Oct. 21 in Lemont.
