Co-Athletes of the Week: Barry, Funkhouser Make History for Oak Forest

Slugger Tim Barry broke two state records, while Kyle Funkhouser pitched a perfect game for the Bengals.

Talk about an extraordinary week for Oak Forest High School baseball.

As has been well documented, . But he wasn’t the only providing a historic feat for the Bengals this past week.

On Tuesday, junior pitcher Kyle Funkhouser pitched his first career perfect game in the Bengals’ five-inning, 16-0 win over Shepard. He recorded 11 strikeouts in what was also his first no-hitter as a varsity pitcher for Oak Forest.

“It’s a big week,” Funkhouser said. “Perfect games don’t come along all that often. Neither do all-time home run records. It’s once in a lifetime.”

With their accomplishments, Barry and Funkhouser have been named Patch’s Co-Athletes of the Week.

Barry’s home run on Friday was the 50th of his high school career, moving him past Curtis Parrish of Odin. Barry’s two RBIs gave him 194, moving him past Stefan Neece of Greenville.

“Excited,” Barry said of his immediate reaction after he hit the record-breaking home run. And … “It’s finally done.”

Barry’s memorable week included his incredible four-homer day in Oak Forest’s doubleheader sweep of T.F. North on Wednesday.
