Brown's Run to State One of Oak Forest Highlights

Bengals' Alec Brown won conference and regional wrestling titles and advanced to the IHSA state tournament; Tim Byrdak fighting for a spot in the bullpen with the Mets.

Oak Forest enjoyed a successful winter sports season with a number of Bengals earning individual all-conference selections and a few teams reeling in conference championships.

In boys basketball, senior guard Scott Korosic was named to the all-Conference team (the Bengals compete in the South Suburban Conference). In girls basketball, juniors Katie Swanson and Lynn Nagle and senior Colleen Emmett were named to the all-conference team.

* In wrestling, Eamon Przekwas and Alec Brown won conference titles and were regional champions, while Brown was a state qualifier. A slew of boys swimmers won conference titles. Joe Behrens won the 100 breast, Casey Gallagher won the 100 back, Cullen Stine won the 100 fly, and Will Strale won the 50 and 100 free. The team of Joe Behrens, Casey Gallagher, Cullen Stine and Will Strale won the 200 medley relay, while the team of  Casey Gallagher, Chris Reed, Dan Minnich and Will Strale won the 200 free relay.

* The Oak Forest/Bremen/Tinley Park co-op girls water polo team has had a very busy week. Entering the weekend, the team was 2-2, losing on Tuesday to Sandburg, but beating Lincoln-Way North on Thursday 11-8. Oak Forest High School junior Emma Martinus lead the team with five goals on Thursday.

* The Oak Forest baseball team begins play this coming week. The Bengals open at Joliet West on Tuesday before traveling to Lincoln-Way North on Friday. According to senior left fielder Tim Barry, he hopes his team can improve from last season’s finish in the sectional championship. “Every year, I just think of it as getting better and better,” Barry said. .
