Bengals Volleyball Keeps Undefeated Conference Record Intact

The Oak Forest girls swimming team splashed to the championship at the Shepard Invitational.

Members of the Oak Forest girls volleyball team stood tall when it counted against Oak Lawn. After losing the second game, Oak Forest eked out a 25-21, 24-26, 25-21 victory over the Spartans.

Kale Zickus and Gina Ryan had some gaudy statistics in the three-game win. Zickus dished out 31 assists and had four aces in the match, while Ryan put down 14 kills for Oak Forest.

The Bengals are now 5-5 overall and 3-0 in the South Suburban Blue Conference.

Oak Forest Football 3-0

The Oak Forest football team continued to roll with a 33-21 victory over Thornton Fractional South on Friday. The Bengals scored 26 points in the second half and made just enough plays in the passing game for a South Suburban Blue victory.

Oak Forest (3-0, 1-0) plays host to Bremen in a battle of unbeaten teams this week. Tevin Coleman will need to have another big game for the Bengals.

Girls Swimming Rules Pool at Shepard

With a number of outstanding individual efforts, Oak Forest took home the team title with 346 points at the Shepard Invitational last weekend. The Bengals beat out seven other teams, including Evergreen Park (326) and Richards (223) to win the meet.

Oak Forest had four individual winners and also took gold in two relays. Emily LoRusso won the diving competition (141.25 points), while Leanna Latocha took first in the 200 individual medley (2:20.24) and the 100 breaststroke (1:11.32). Also placing first were Emma Martinus in the 100 butterfly (1:05.82) and Lauren Stryzek in the 500 free (6:02.11).

The Bengals won the 200 medley relay (2:00.99) and finished the meet with a victory in the 400 free relay (4:07.55).

Girls Tennis Takes First in Quad

Oak Forest won its latest girls tennis quad against Morton, Rich South and Queen of Peace. It was the first time the Bengals have won the quad since it was started with those three opponents.

Ashley Wiginton and Hailey Pickrum continued their dominance at first and second singles by taking first place. But the big surprise came in the doubles. Carrie Mazzuca and Kara Collazo, who was called on late to fill in for an injury, won the No. 2 doubles title.

“Kara (Callazo) practically rolled out of bed and onto the tennis court, and she was ready to play,” Oak Forest coach Erica Amoni said.
