Bengals' Coleman Picks Up Accolades, Impresses in First Game

Oak Forest girls tennis and boys golf are off to quick starts, too.

Oak Forest’s Tevin Coleman is considered one of the top running backs in the state and many are expecting the senior tailback to put up big numbers in his final high school season. ESPN Chicago named him to its watch list for offensive player of the year.

Coleman didn’t disappoint in Oak Forest’s first game, scoring three touchdowns in the first half of the Bengals’ 40-0 win over Urban Prep.

Bengals' Girls Tennis Starts Strong

Oak Forest’s girls tennis team is off to a dominating start, defeating two local rivals in early-season matches. The Bengals dispatched of Oak Lawn, 4-1, on Aug. 24 and followed that up a day later with a 5-0 shutout of Rich Central.

Ashley Wiginton defeated Rich Central’s Rhejass White 6-0, 6-3 in first singles.

Ryan Named to All-Tournament Team

Oak Forest’s Gina Ryan was named to the all-tournament team at the Falcon Blue and Gold Classic. Oak Forest went 2-0 in Pool B, defeating Montini and St. Joseph’s, both in two games.

The Bengals lost their final three games in the volleyball tournament, falling to Andrew and Montini in two games and losing to Kaneland in a tough three-set match.  

Boys Golf Remains Undefeated in Duals

After winning a regional championship last season, Oak Forest is looking for another title. Less than a month into the season, the Bengals are 5-0 in dual meets.

Oak Forest defeated Shepard, 163-171, in the season-opener with medalist Josh Napoli firing a 37 over nine holes. Most recently, Oak Forest beat Reavis, 171-215, and was paced by Josh Griffin’s 39 on Aug. 25.

McDonough Wins 100th Football Game

Oak Forest’s victory over Urban Prep on Friday represented the 100th victory in Brian McDonough’s tenure as coach of the Bengals. Immediately following the game, athletic director Sue Bonner presented McDonough with a ceremonial football that had been signed by the entire team.
