Oak Forest schools are gearing up for their holiday concerts, and Patch has compiled all the info into one handy list.

Radio stations have been pumping out the Christmas tunes for weeks—but there's no better version of 'Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer' than the one your kid's been practicing for weeks.

Winter Chorus? Winter Dance? Oak Forest High School Holiday Concert? Are these not Christmas dances and concerts? Why can't we just call them what they are; which is Christmas functions. Oh I forgot that would be politically incorrect.

Hi, Michael. Jeff used the title provided by the schools. I can't speak for all the songs and materials, but even when I attended a Catholic high school, not every song in our winter concert contained Christmas references.

Lauren, I commend you for putting that a lot more diplomatically than I would've.
Mike Fangman December 01, 2012 at 01:29 AM
Oh and by the way, holiday is from the Old English word "håligdaeg", meaning "holy day".
Michael M. December 01, 2012 at 05:22 AM
When I was in school, they called them Christmas songs, dances, chorus. Just more PC bull. Shall we call Ramadan a holiday? Maybe all references to religious days for all religions and denominations should be called holidays, that way no one will get their feelings hurt. It is Freedom OF religion people, get a grip.
Michael M. December 01, 2012 at 05:26 AM
Mike-now that you revealed that, some people will want the word holiday banned and replaced with vacation or some other nonsense.
