Let's Get Technological: District 142 Hits the Pavement for Equipment

Students from Forest Ridge School District 142 will seek donations to help fund technology purchases for their classrooms—then they'll walk the laps

Times might be tough, but is still trying to keep the most up-to-date technology in its schools, and students are getting in on the fun.

Students are collecting pledges for the district's first annual Tech-a-thon (similar to a walk-a-thon), to be held April 13.

"Technology is an integral part of our students’ lives; it is our responsibility as educators to prepare students for their future," wrote Dr. Elizabeth Ma, Director of Technology and Learning, in a letter to parents. "Technology will never replace the teacher, but will enhance the learning that takes place in our schools."

All money raised by students will stay in their respective schools, and each school has a different goal. Foster School, for instance, is aiming for 20 iPads for students—a cost of $10,000. The goal at is a laptop cart, a cost of $30,000.

"Technology is necessary for our students to effectively and efficiently communicate, problem solve, and function in the 21st century," Ma wrote. "As a district, we are committed to the ongoing upgrades of infrastructure, hardware, and software."

The winning class from each school will be rewarded with a pizza party from Kenootz.
