South Suburban College Presents “African Americans: Past, Present & Future”

South Suburban College’s Adult Education Department, Office of Student Life & Leadership and SSC Book Club present “African Americans:  Past, Present & Future,” in honor of Black History Month on Tuesday, Feb. 22, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Kindig Performing Arts Center. 
 
The program will feature keynote speakers Sheila Downer, certified life coach and author, and Tchicaya Ellis-Robertson, PhD.  There will be a black historic photo display by photographer David Jackson, and a drawing portfolio along with live drawings performed by local artist Juan Jackson in the PAC Lobby.  Raffles and refreshments will also be provided.
 
The Adult Education Department will also present awards to the winners of their GED Essay Contest in recognition on National Writing Day: 1st Place:  Carl Tillman Jr. (GED student who transitioned to an SSC student); 2nd Place:  Dawn Chavers; 3rd Place:  Jamal Powell; Honorable Mention:  Khoa Nguyen, Joanie Wotazak and Sharon Goulart-Mella.
