D146 Students Honor Memory of Classmate Bailee Zaker

Seven-year-old Bailee died suddenly in October 2013. Students at Fierke Education Center recently wore purple in honor of her eighth birthday.

Students in Liz Grigas’ second-grade class at Fierke Education Center wore purple and cowboy or cowgirl boots, in memory of their friend Bailee Zaker on what would have been her eighth birthday Jan. 23.

The blue-eyed, blonde-haired, bubbly Oak Forest girl died in October at 7 years old. She loved her cowgirl boots.

“She is still a part of our classroom family and we wanted to do something special for her birthday to remember her,” Grigas said.

Bailee's mother Chasity Maggio thanked the class for their thoughtful action.

"I think it was wonderful of her to think of my baby on her special day," she said. "I know all her classmates loved my Bailee as much as I did and all the purple in the picture shows that."
