City Shines Spotlight on State Runner-up OFHS Cheerleaders

Oak Forest High School's own state runner-up cheerleaders were front and center at Tuesday's city council meeting, for a standing ovation from city administrators.

A giant trophy, individual medals, a (complete with police escort)—but there was still more celebrating to do for 's state runner-up cheerleaders.

The girls hoisted their trophy into Tuesday, where it glimmered in front of aldermen and Mayor Hank Kuspa. City officials recognized the cheerleaders for their accomplishment with a proclamation and a standing ovation.

"On Feb. 12, 2012, the Oak Forest High School Lady Bengal cheerleaders captured a state trophy by finishing above all but one of those 87 teams," said City Clerk Scott Burkhardt. "Each one of these young women deserve recognition for their accomplishments, which shine so brightly on our community, our high school and their families."

Oak Forest Bengals varsity cheerleaders have qualified for state competition and advanced to the finals every year since 2006.
