Stephanie Perkins gives herself a run for her money with her second novel.

Greetings faithful readers. Remember how last week I said that if there was another guy as cute as St. Clair I have yet to find him? Well, I now respectfully withdraw that statement and add on Cricket Bell into the most adorable guy race. It would seem that Stephanie Perkins is now trying to pull a James Cameron and break her own record with her second novel.

Our main character in this novel Lola, who to use her own words “doesn’t believe in fashion, believes in costume.” Throughout the entire novel, she is always wearing something new and different, most of which is not what you would normally find on the street. This belief leads to her one major goal, for the moment, to go to her winter formal looking like Marie Antoinette, panniers and all.
Lola also has a boyfriend, who she ‘loves’ and believes to be ‘the one.’ He’s in a band, has tattooed arms, and loves her back. Oh, but there is one miniscule detail that I haven’t mentioned, she’s seventeen and he’s twenty-two. No big deal at all. All is going well between Lola and Max, of course she would like a longer leash from her dads between her and her boyfriend, but at least she can see him, until the Bells move back in.

Her on again off again neighbors, the Bells, have been moving in and out of the neighborhood constantly to pursue a figure skating career for their daughter, Calliope, and her twin, Cricket, always follows. Lola thought they had moved out for good last time, which is a very good thing for her because her and Cricket now have a history together and it ended badly. She thought by getting together with Max she had moved on from the boy next door, but now him being there is bringing back old feelings that she would rather keep hushed.
Cricket Bell. Hmmmmm, how can I accurately describe him? His lanky body, sweet nature, and overall nerdiness make him a great character and made me wish he wasn’t fictional. So, on the romance meter, this book gets an A+. I highly recommended this book to teenage girls looking for a nice clean romance that will make you wonder if there was any way to jump inside the page and steal Lola’s life.
