State Legislation Would Establish Plan for State-Wide Community-Based Mental Health Services

State Sen. Maggie Crotty of Oak Forest announced the legislation pushing through the General Assembly.

Proposed state legislation backed by an Oak Forest Democrat aims to eliminate instances of unneeded institutional care for those with mental health issues.

State Sen. (D-) is teaming with the Community Behavioral Healthcare Association of Illinois, who initiated the legislation. House Bill 3893 would allow the Department of Human Services to create a plan for establishing a statewide system for services.

By establishing this system, the measure would help prevent unnecessary care.

“Each person who suffers from a mental health disorder is unique and requires different levels of care and attention,” Crotty said in a statement for the media. “I am working to ensure that there are choices available for those seeking out mental health services.”

The legislation now goes to the House of Representatives for concurrence.
