Out with Jewel Express, In with Circle K

The fuel station and convenience store at 159th and Central Avenue will be changing hands. Oak Forest aldermen Tuesday approved revoking the liquor license for Jewel Express and issuing a new one for Circle K.

The corner of 159th and Central Avenue will have a bit of a different look soon. The gas station on the northwest corner will become a Circle K.

To move the transition along, Tuesday approved the revocation of the liquor license held by Jewel Express, followed swiftly by the issuance of a license for the incoming Circle K.

Circle K's takeover of the station at 5600 W. 159th St. will be finalized in early November. The transaction is one of more than 27 Jewel Express stations sold in the Chicago area, and more than 100 nationwide.

SuperValu Inc. in the Chicago area, including locations in Lockport, New Lenox and Homewood, in addition to one at 9400 S. Ashland Ave. in Chicago.

SuperValu is selling the stations to raise money to strengthen other parts of its core grocery business.
